Colchester Zoo
by PeterVancouver
Colchester Zoo has some of the best cat and primate collections in Europe. See a White tiger eye to eye in White Tiger Valley, or get closer to the Zoo's Chimpanzees at Chimp World.
Other award winning enclosures include Penguin Shores for our breeding group of Humboldt's Penguins, Serengeti Plains for African lions and Kingdom of the Wild for giraffes, rhinos and Pygmy Hippos.
If you haven't been to Colchester Zoo for a while you would hardly recognise the place, in the last few years we have added several new attractions, there's more facilities, new enclosures, interactive discovery centres, undercover picnic areas and new shops.

Colchester - Britain's oldest recorded town

"Colchester Castle"
Sept 2008 - I have now been back for a short visit to Colchester to take some more pictures, unfortunately the great British weather curtailed my picture taking.
June 2004 - My visit to Colchester was a very hurried one hour, so just had time to take a picture or two.
I was unable therefore to visit the Colchester Castle Museum (a must see on another occasion).
I did pick up a brochure, and apparently it takes you through 2000 years of some of the most important events in British history. It was once the capital of Roman Britain, Colchester has experienced devastation by Boudica (Boadicea) invasion by the Normans and siege during the English Civil War
The brochure informs us that since the 16th century the Castle has been a ruin, a library, and a gaol for witches.
Today it is an award winning museum featuring many hands-on displays to help explain the towns-people's experience of Colchester's varying fortunes.
