to High Laver

by DHZkaren

I want to go to High Laver from Harlow and be back on the same day. Please, any suggestion on transportation, route, maps? Thanks!

Walking? Driving? By Bus?

As you mention transportation, I am going to assume you do not have a car.

If you do, just use the routeplanner on:

http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp?database=B

You'll find Harlow > Kigh Laver bus times here:

http://www.harlowride.co.uk/

Basically, you can't do it in a day from Harlow, only from High Laver.

The hamlet is not too far from Harlow (about 4 miles, depending on where you are starting from) so a taxi is possibly your only option.

I do not drive.
Any possiblity to walk? (I'm physically ok.)
If not, is there any place to stay for the night at High Laver?

Of course you can walk. It's perfectly safe.

If you put 'High Laver' into http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/

you will get good, detailed zoom-able maps which will give you an idea of what's involved.

It would be best to get a bus to a nearby village (perhaps North Weald, or Chipping Ongar) and walk from there, rather than trek through the suburbs of Harlow (not dangerous, just boring and potentially confusing).

http://www.harlowride.co.uk/connectionsmain.html#T will give you bus times.

You will be able to buy an Ordnance Survey map of the area when you are in Harlow (bookshops, possibly large newsagents). These OS maps are by far the best for walking, as they will show you footpaths etc.....if you zoom in on the map you can see you'll be able to walk across country on footpaths for some of the time.

Do be aware of the daylight though: if you are visiting in the next few weeks it will be getting dark by around 4.30pm. It might be better to walk one way and take a taxi the other (get some taxi numbers beore you leave Harlow).

I don't think there is anywhere to stay in High Laver itself. It really is very tiny indeed.

There is a Travelodge at North Weald Bassett, but I'm not sure that's any more use than a hotel in Harlow.
