A weekend away from the toil of everyday life! Mmmm...
We drove up from Kent on the Friday morning and arrived at the Hotel du Vin in time for lunch. It was delicious.
Our room, the Moet, was everything that we had hoped for and once we had unpacked we wandered off into the Recency Spa town of Cheltenham.
A word of warning, Parabola Road is frustrating to find---even with a satnav. The satnav took us into the one-way system. However, I map-read our departure and avoided the one-way ---so much easier!
Unique Quality: Okay, the location is great: a 2 minute saunter from the centre!
The room: a vast bed to die for, a double monsoon shower, two role-topped baths, a good TV, Bose CD/DVD system, a separate toilet, his and hers basins, a rocking horse (!), plenty of wardrobe/drawer space, a desk, a lounger. Oh, there was an ironing board plus an iron in case you felt the need...
The showers and baths are in the main room.
There is no sound from the road outside.
The Bistro and food: the food was delicious. We had two evening meals there, two breakfasts and a lunch. The wine list was comprehensive.
Service: outstanding. I have a life-threatenning nut allergy which they dealt with so well. The only time that we felt 'neglected' was during the extremely busy Friday evening meal in the bistro ---the service was a little slow. However, we weren't in too much of a rush!
Hints: if there are just two of you, select a table around the edge of the room.
Other features: a selection of lounge areas, a comprehensive bar, two outdoor seating areas, a spa, a car park
Would we stay there again? A huge yes!
Hotel near the Municipal Hall
It was a hotel arranged by my company for us who participated in the OATC training in Cheltenham. It's near the Cheltenham's Girl College which I was told Madonna's daughter is studying but I have not verify or rather not interested to verify it. The room I was staying is quite comfortable with some attic-feel. The breakfast was again typical English breakfast which you will find boring and yucky after days of having them. No offense but for me, Malaysians are blessed with a variety of breakfast to choose from, i,e, nasi lemak, roti canai kosong and plenty of variety of roti's, kolok mee (Swak), kon lou mee, porridge, dim sum, bread, toast, mee goreng, mihun goreng, thosai, martabak, mi jawa the list go on.... What made me remember the stay there is a fellow Sabahan who works in the restaurant in that hotel who always more than happy to serve us nasi goreng/fried rice as a break from the monotonous English breakfast. Forgot your name buddy but will remember you for your great generosity.
Directions: Quite near to the Cheltenham Municipal Hall, within walking distance.
