More about Cheltenham & Gloucester Chase Hotel

Great Hotel with Great Service

by TripAdvisor Member Whites2088

We stayed at the Cheltenham Chase hotel for one night in October. We were very impressed with the hotel and the staff. The hotel has recently been refurbished and the rooms were very comfortable. Flat screen Tv and CD player together with a lovely bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. There are even lights in the wardrobe when you open the door. The most impressive thing about this hotel was the staff. From the reception staff to the housekeeping staff every one was helpful and pleasant. We were particulary impressed by the restaurant staff. Well worth a visit!

stunning hotel and room

by TripAdvisor Member madaboutholidays70

My fiance booked this hotel for the august bank holiday weekend through lastminute.com. We arrived on Friday evening and stayed until the following Tuesday. It had recently had just over £5million refurbishment so we knew it would be good but I was amazed at how lovely it actually was. Check in was swift and friendly, we arrived in our room and was very pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and bathroom, the size of the bed (absolutely massive!!) and the high spec and high standard of finish of the room. There was a lovely flat screen TV, fridge and safe free of charge in the room. Breakfast was great, buffet style with continental, cheeses and cooked meats, cereals, juices and full english too. We were staying there over the bank holiday and there was a wedding taking place on Friday, Sat and Sunday and on the Sat night we were advised by a member of staff in the restaurant to arrive early for breakfast the next day as it was going to be busy. We did this as we were going out for the day and we were glad we did as there was a queue and a long wait!! One thing that happened and the hotel couldn't help was the fact that a fight broke out on the Sat night related to the wedding and the police were called. It's a shame that these people behaved like this but I guess there is always a fight at a wedding!!

We had a meal in the hotel on the Sat night and I have to say this was the only thing that let the hotel down. Firstly it took over half an hour for the drinks to arrive, it got to the point where I was going to go out to the bar and order my own, I was gasping!! I ordered chicken with diane sauce, asked for no chips but wanted mash, to cut a very long story short, the chicken had to go back (pink), chips came out, no mash and it was peppercorn sauce instead of Diane. In the end they took the price of the meal off the bill which was the least they could do. We vowed never to eat in the restaurant again! On speaking to another guest they had had the same problem with drinks orders and they really need to sort that problem out!!

There was a lovely pool with a sauna and steam room and that was great to use at the end of the day.

All in all this hotel was one of the best I have ever stayed in and I have been to a fair few around the world!! The bed was out of this world and the standard of the room was second to none. From this hotel we visited Bath which was great, we used the spa there and we went to Cheddar Gorge for the day and also Tewskbury, it really is a great spot to stay in order to see other areas. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will definitely go back again.

Mixed Feelings

The hotel has undergone a £5 million redevelopment and inparticular this is evident in the bedroom. Excellent facilities in the room, flat screen television, seperate bath and shower areas, cd player and well stocked minibar.

The liesure facilities are adequate for a brief stay, i advise that you give the swimming pool area a miss at the weekend. Under 18 running free on several ocassions and a unusally gym members who appear very territorial!

The restaurant is nice, very impressed with the male Restaurant supervisor, who calmness, attentiveness and professionalism was exceptional. I estimate the restaurant hosted over 100 people that night. He was a credit to the hospitality industry and has a big future. The food was adequate but not great for a 4 star hotel (company was paying).

The bar experience was not to be missed. 3 barmen on duty none off whom were manager or supervisors. All english which was a surprise in the hotel industry. Their product knowledge was superb on wine and spirits. All 3 gentlemen were attentive to our needs delivering a first rate performance. I advise you to sit at the bar or near it just to hear the humour and banter between the bar staff. I understand that a 4 star aims to deliver a more formal experience but I like a bar with character and these barmen brought that atmosphere. They delivered a high class service whilst unaware of having our group in stiches with their banter (NEVER CRUDE OR RUDE). On talking with more frequent guest and gym members they are always like this. The female members of our group also found them very handsome fellows.

All in all a above average stay let down by food, but made all the better by bar staff and restaurant superrvisor. These gentlemen are excellent.
