grand old house

wyck house is a grand old house about 2 miles out of stow, very atmospheric with a beautiful entrance with a huge staircase leading to the rooms on the upper floors ,fireplace and piano leading into the dining hall.
the dinner was excellent although expensive, you know the type huge plates with only a little grub on them ,but beautifully presented.
Our room n05 at the top of the staircase was superb with no complaints. We thouroughly enjoyed our short stay.

Unique Quality: great views, nice garden, great history.

Were we unlucky

Having seen this Hotel 3 years ago, standing in a beautiful position , a outstanding building with a lovely look about it we had the chance for a two night break last week. However our room had a view of a large skip and dustbins above the wash/boiler room which was so hot we had to have a fan on all the time. The floor had not been cleaned and the fan blew the dust round. The staff did their best as we did not see any Management over seeing the Hotel or giving direction to the staff as many were new. The food was good but a little on the expensive side with no special dishes from the chef. The wine list was very limited. The web site of this Hotel is a little misleading, stating Luxury Country Manor. Many of the staff had a favourite saying of "No problem" or "No worries" after every communication. A Thankyou would have been fine. Our impression of this hotel was, that it was trying to be something it is not. The New Bar does not fit in at all with the beautiful Manor. nichehotels already have a niche, a wonderful building, why change it. Just enhance what they have and gentle restore History.

we went to this hotel for our wedding Anniversary October 1st 2006, location really nice hotel clean and staff helpful.we booked in the restaurant for dinner but unfortunantley i ask for lamb after a 10 minute delay i was told that there was none, had to settle for fillet steak in the end, which was nice but not what i wanted. anyway the next morning i got into the shower and the next thing the grill of the extractor fan came off and hit me on the head, then one almighty noise started from the next room, the workmen started banging and drilling due to the new spa being built this was at ten past eight in the morning hence waking my wife up who was expecting a lie in!!! went to complain at reception and my bill was reduced and was told that a fifty pound voucher would be sent out which could be used in the spar when it opens. after numerous phone calls and speaking to two managers i am still waiting so evidently our custom is not valued. i would have liked to have gone back but after the fiasco i would not go back there if it was for free.

Excellent hotel

We stayed just for one night. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and courteous. A beautiful building in a wonderful location.
