The bar by glennkasner This busy youth hostel seems very popular and was very well equipped to see to the basic requirements of the youngsters staying there. They have internet facilities, a limited library and the breakfasts were pretty good. As far as the accommodation was concerned, it resembled a prison - no mod cons here I'm afraid. Communal Bathrooms, no packing space in rooms and just a stainless steel washbasin and 2× double bunks per room. Still we were there to try the place out for a budget school group my wife was sending over and ended up quite enjoying the place.
Good filling breakfast. Theme: HostelComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Russell Square

The room...not too shabby by Jyrki Hotels are far from cheap in London. We managed to rangle up a B&B style triple room for about 50 pounds after searching long and hard on the internet for places that werent too run dwon and were actually in London. Our room was a boc with 20 foot ceilings and a bathroom but, hey, who cares your travelling what do you need to do besides sleep there. Bottom Line: if you find somewhere cheap grab it!
Free continental breakfast at most smaller (and thus cheaper) places. The smaller the place the friendlier and more willing to help the clerks. Take advantage! Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Right Around the corner from the British Museum

Arran House Hotel front by Socialbutterfly The Arran House is a charming hotel located near the University of London and within walking distance of the British Museum. The rooms are clean and are decent sized, based on European standards. If your room isnt ensuite, dont worry, the shared bathrooms are kept very clean, and are much bigger than then ensuite version. The staff are extremely friendly and kind, other guests are also friendly and helpful. They have a nice little garden out back, and if the weather is right, its a good place to relax. A full English Breakfast is available and is a great way to start off the day.
The thing that sticks out most in my mind is the friendliness of the staff both before our arrival and while we were their guests. We really felt at home and when we left we hugged them as if to say good bye to our own family. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and very laid back. It really was home away from home for us. Our hotel is located in a perfect spot - close to everything: post office, restaurants, stores, internet cafe, St. Mary's hospital, and Paddington Station. Our room is a family room and large enough for a family of 4. We had one double bed and 2 twin beds. Bathroom is quite small, especially the shower stall, but very clean. Room service came daily to tidy up our room and provide clean towels. You cannot make long distance phone calls to the U.S. at this hotel. We made calls to the U.S. at the nearby internet cafe.
Warm hotel rooms, especially for those guests who come from warm climates. Continental breakfast provided - good breakfast and just right to start the day.

I booked this hotel over the internet - they are featured on a number of sites and the photograp they show of a single room is in fact that of a twin room. The single room is the size of a shoe box! So small that I had to shift my suitcase each time I moved around in the room! The "bathroom" was tiny, with the shower rose situated almost directly above the toilet which meant having to remove the toilet paper etc each time you used the shower! To top it all they charged me GBP 60 per night!! Rip off of the year! Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Kings Cross

Don't know about the hotels but you can save a bundle on your budget by using the London Pass for attractions. It saves you having to queue for tickets and gives you all the details of where you want to go and how to get there. http://www.londonpass.com/londonMaps.asp?attTag=cityCruises<br /> I have stayed in the Hilton, usual top class hotel, usual glamorous surroundings, however, as you will either be asleep or out all day and not in the room, you might like to save some pennies and consider the link below. Travelodge has some amazing deals at the moment. http://www.travelodge.co.uk/get_the_best_rates/ I would save your money, eat out in amazing places and see some shows. Stomp is a good one!

There are numerous B&B type places in the nearby London suburbs that are an easy subway ride from central London. Much cheaper prices and you see more of what living there is like. Breakfast is to die for and so filling you'll be stuffed for the balance of the day. If you are on a cheap budget, there a quite literally, numerous hotels to choose from around the Queensway/Lancaster Gate area of London. Anything from £19 to £28 a night depending on what you want. You have to be very selective though and make sure you check out the room first before you sign anything! Some places are just down right dodgey, stinky and aren't fit to house people! So look around and be prepared to sift!
Having so many to choose from and being so close to the West End are the only advantages about these places. You can take the number 94 bus from Holland Park Road right up to Oxford Circus and Picadilly Circus. Plus there is a mall and supermarket in Queensway, along with many restaurants, shops and a movie theatre complex. Not my favourite area of London but it's only a stones throw from Hyde Park and all the major attractions. Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Just catch the tube to Queensway, get out onto Holland Park Road, walk up towards the city and then down any of the side streets. You'll find loads of hotels around this area for all sorts of budgets!
