London Hilton Metropole: Good location

by MFAMILY

My family and I always stay at Hilton Metropole. It's 15 minutes from Heathrow to Paddington Station by the Heathrow Express and a short walk to the hotel. There's plenty of groceries, coffee shops and convenience stores around. And two subway stations that take you to the most important locations. It's a 10min walk to Marble Arch and Oxford Street, a few subway stops to Picadilly or Portobello Road area, for example.
The hotel sometimes has a special ratre incluiding a dinner or two, depending on how may days you stay. The rates become interesting in this case and the food is good. Check their own website.

Breakfast with great variety of choices.
Upper floors with nice views of the city.
Indoor pool.
Internet corner with printer.

Amazing deals for London: Travel Lodge

by Suet

Don't know about the hotels but you can save a bundle on your budget by using the London Pass for attractions. It saves you having to queue for tickets and gives you all the details of where you want to go and how to get there.

http://www.londonpass.com/londonMaps.asp?attTag=cityCruises

I have stayed in the Hilton, usual top class hotel, usual glamorous surroundings, however, as you will either be asleep or out all day and not in the room, you might like to save some pennies and consider the link below. Travelodge has some amazing deals at the moment.

I would save your money, eat out in amazing places and see some shows. Stomp is a good one!

Heathrow Lodge: Avoid this place!

by dobz

I would not recommend this place. The room was well worn and the minute "en-suite" was some sort of fibre glass cabin in the corner with the smallest shower imaginable! The place is far out of London for travelling purposes. Really not worth it!

Nothing great!

Hotel California: You can check in anytime but you never leave...

by airbrush

Beautiful decorative california colour scheme. Pleasant surprise, some of the room location is like a maze. Room 105, 107, 109 is easy to locate because there are at the ground level and near the reception. Going to room above first floor is like walking in a maze, there are many doors and there is no lift to the upper floor. The receptionist is very friendly and helpful. Room are clean and the coffee and tea are very generous. The receptionist working in the night look a little like David Copperfield, he has a thick eye brow and soft spoken. If you have heavy and big luggage be prepared for the adventure.

Like the song Hotel California. You can check in anytime but you never leave. The rooms location are like a maze and it take me a while to get out of the room to the reception area. What is good about this hotel is the breakfast and coffee which is very generous.

Grange Fitzrovia Hotel: Ok but quite central

by Suzze

To begin with we came out of the tube station and had a five min walk to Bolsover St which was where the hotel was. We started to walk down and suddenly realised that the numbers were going the wrong way! We were told that the hotel was just a few yards down the road but we thought how can it be the numbers are not tallying. Anyway, we walked up and down a couple of times and realised it was just a few yards where we decided to go back again! really weired. We checked in but couldn't have our room til 2pm so we had our bags tagged and left them at the hotel so we could go back out as we had a booking on the london eye.
When we came back to check into our room we were quite dissapointed as we were put in the basement, which have to say did have windows but beware, as all you can hear are the trains on the underground. Also the air conditioning wasn't working well and we did complain as we couldn't open the windows as we were on the ground floor. We complained more about the air conditioning as we were feeling quite uncomfortable. A couple of guys came out to try and fix it but said it's just slow! So we complained again as it wasn't going to be sorted and they changed our room to the third floor. No air conditioning I might add, but we were provided with a fan and we could open the windows! The room was much better and had a massive bathroom. We had a great nights sleep and the bed had lots of pillows and was very comfortable.
The downside to this hotel in my eyes was the breakfast. At £15 a head including tax was a dissapointment. We had to wait a while before the next lot of cooked bacon, eggs etc came out and then it wasn't that great. For what they charge the service was poor and the food could have been better. Asked two waiters for ketchup too before I got it.
The hotel was nice and had a nice atmosphere about it, but the room to start off with and the breakfast would not make me go back there again.
It didn't spoil our weekend and we had a good time.

Elizabeth Hotel: Great Location, bring lot's of money

by travlnsolo

Hotel was clean and beds are comfortable. Breakfast was very good, and included with room.

Charming old Hotel near a former residence of Winston Churchill. Walking distance to Victoria Station, and the Victoria Coach Bus station in the Belgravia area.

Holland Park Hostel: Holland House YHA

by leafmcgowan

Accessible via the High street Kensington stations, this historic hostel house is in the heart of Holland Park and is impeded with the park hours, though it has day and night access entrances that loop its members through the park after hours. 201 beds it's built into the Jacobean wing of Holland House and overlooks Holland Park - its very large, very busy, rather institutional looking, but its location is one the best spots in the city. There's a cafe, kitchen, and breakfast is included with the 22/night quid(pound) rate. Friendly staff, lots of information, guides, and directions for wandering around London. Beautiful courtyard with peacocks and chickens wandering around, fish pond, green space, and outside patio. One of the better hostels I've stayed at, and my favorite next to the Jericho Beach Hostel in Vancouver, B.C. which shares similarities. Rating 5 stars out of 5.

Oxford Street Hostel: Oxford Street YHA

by leafmcgowan

A great hostel central to the shopping and partying nightlife center of London's hippest and alternative young sector. Central to the theatres, clubs, bars, and shops. The hostel is affordable, has late hours, a basement with lockers to store your gear, twin beds in sleeps-3 rooms, and roughly 75 beds. Tight halls and multi-floored. Large kitchen with self-cook utilities. No meals are served. Friendly staff and a cool lounge room. Basic clean and central. Rating: 3.75 stars out of 5.

Hyde Park Premier London Paddington: Watch out - Not all of the Rooms are good!

by Yvonne79

I found this place on the internet and was surprised to find such a good deal: £59 a night for a double room in a four star hotel in central London seems quite a bargain. When we arrived, we weren't all that happy anymore. The room didn't really look like in a 4*, but rather like a 2* hotel. The furnishings were very old, the walls too thin and the bathroom was just tiny. We did however not complain, because we thougt that the price is ok for a hotel just around the corner from Hyde Park, although we found the room quite shabby.
We were very surprised when our friends arrived at the hotel the last night we were staying there: they had booked later than we had and payed a few pounds less. The room they were given was however worthy of a 4* hotel and looked like the one on the picture. It looked very new, was nicely decorated, had a much larger modern bathroom. There was even a micro-wave and a flat-screen TV in their room!
I might go back to the hotel again, but next time I would complain in case I was given a room like last time again. If you book the hotel, try to change the room, in case it is one of the shabby ones in the basement - the people on the higher floors didn't pay more than you did!
Wheter you have an old or a new room, they are all very small! No space to leave any huge suitcases open...
The picture is from the official homepage of the hotel. I forgot to take one of our room, sorry!

I liked the location of the hotel. It's not too far from the "Lancaster Gate" Underground station, which is right next to Hyde Park. It's only 1 stop to the stores on Oxford Street.

The staff of the hotel was very friendly.
