transfer in Gatwick

by 75Antonio

Hi
im flying from Madrid and transfer in Gatwick to Dubai
Do i have to clear inmigration and customs or can i stay in the "sterile" area?
how long would it take me to transfer if i have to change terminals?

Re: transfer in Gatwick

by vividturtle

you stay in the TRANSIT area and do not have to get out of that area.
I just went through Gatwick, you do however, have to go through security again, even when coming from the other flight and going directly into the "transfer/connections" area. It took about 35 minutes to go through that one, it was early in the morning

If your baggage is being checked through to Dubai then you will not have to go through immigration and customs, and will stay within the transit area.

If your baggage is not checked through then you will have to pass through immigration and customs.

Travel Tips for London

Big Ben, the clock tower 315...

by Tolik

Big Ben, the clock tower 315 feet high, is named for its bell. The name Big Ben applied originally only to the bell but was probably after Sir Benjamin Hall the first Commissioner of Works. The light above the clock remains lit while the Commons is sitting.

Entertainer in Covent Garden

by socrates_07

Something I didnt know at all before I visited London was Covent Garden. After my trip I have to say, it was one of my favorite place. There are many entertainer, pubs, ... well, although crowded you can relax after sighttseeing all the day. And I enjoyed the time there with a good beer...

St John’s Chapel, Downshire Hill, Hampstead

by alucas

The chapel was built in 1818 by William Woods in the conventional Classical style of the day to serve Hampstead’s elegant down-hill expansion towards the city. It was opened in 1823 as a proprietary chapel, and 1982 was the last one remaining in London.

The chapel is Grade I listed, and has its original Georgian interior, box pews, and galleries on three sides. It could seat over 1000 people in its heyday.

The chapel has recently been restored following major structural problems, which led to the Chapel being placed on English Heritage's 'buildings at risk' register.

The Usual

by Robertvp

Beer drinking in the UK is quite the social pastime.
Most pubs are part of a chain serving the same brands of beer. Pubs also serve good pub grub (food) Everything comes with chips..
Its best to know beforehand want you want to drink as the selection is endless.
All well known brands are available but not neccessarily at all of the pubs. Beer comes in the pint and half pint when you order draught beer which is cheaper than bottled beer. There are lagers which rank as beer in North America. The most popular lager right now is stella artois (belgian) The young crowd go for it, it also happens to be one of the cheaper choices. Becks (german) is considered a premium beer /lager
The English beers consist mainly of Ale, stout and bitter. There would also be best ale, best bitter etc. (best reflects the price) The locals usually have their favourite watering hole where their favourite beer is available.
There are pubs and there are pubs.
Some pubs appeal to the music crowd with live bands on the week-end.Others are more relaxed and quiet. But most of them serve some type of food. What with the rigid laws regarding driving while intoxicated, a lot of the pubs have seen their business drop. The emphasis now is on food, which is quite reasonable compared to Restaurants especially in the London area.

Not much.

It doesn't matter whether to carry your luggage you bring a suitcase or backpack, but try and keep some kind of handbag or rucksack while walking around. Bring nice comfy fashionable shoes, they are very fashion aware in London. In the winter bring a very proper rain coat and in the summer bring some comfortable shirts or t-shirts. The normal toiletries apply. A couple of plasters should do the trick for medical supplies. If you are a fan of churches bring your digital camera. If not then bring a normal camera. There is nowhere to camp, no beaches and you don't really need any outdoor gear.
