    I made my arrangements through a service called At Home in London. They put you in the home of a family where you get a private room and bath. I stayed with some very nice people west of the city in a 100-year-old house. I enjoyed talking to them so much and learning about London from them that I had to remind myself to go site see. I paid $55 a night. And it was easy to get to the sights I wanted to see by the metro. When I went back in 2006, I used this service again and stayed in a home near Marble Arch for about the same price. It wasn't as nice as the first place but the owner was very friendly and a lot of fun to talk to.

    if you listen to short, fat, not nice guy from behind front desk at yha-london, who clearly hates women who bother him during the night shift, and you go to sleep, wake up late, do not go to the nearest tube station but follow his advice and go to the one further away, under the rain, with too many bags because you still don't know how to pack light, even though you keep telling yourself it will never happen again, and get off the tube at the wrong exit because you thought you had to go to the gate of iberia but you had to go to the british airwaves' instead and you end up missing your flight to madrid, don't despair. well, maybe a little. after you realize it is pointless to pay for an expensive nearby hotel for a 16 hour stay head for the bus stop and locate the very comfortable waiting seats were nobody will bother you and wait until next morning.

    there are bathrooms nearby and on the next floor there's food and an arcade, upgrade!
