 | London Reviews | Tips 121 - 130 of 1667 | | Goswell Residence is an independent students dormitory, self-catering and close to many attractions. I lived here for nearly 3 months. I used to walk 5 days a week from here to Russell Square where my school is. It takes around 30 minutes walking. Generally speaking, I really enjoyed my stay in this residence. I made lots of friends who are from everywhere. I just loved it. Pros: - Located in a quiet area, so you can study in peace - Luandry machines are located in the basement and very affordable and easy to use. - 10 min away from supermarket (Sainsbury's) and pubs and clubs. - 30 min walking to British Museum and Russell Square. - 20 min walking to King's Cross tube station. - There are two small parks within walking distance, one right at the opposite side of the Goswell Road and the other is 5 min away. Cons: - Location itself is too quiet that it may sound dull and boring in evenings. If you walk alone, it might be unsafe since this area is known for drunk people to go around, though I have never seen any. - Low level of security. There is CCTV in the building and at the main gate but that is all are undersupervised really. My bike got stolen under their nose and the security guard was just away or asleep. - Prices vary and are not fixed. It depends if you book directly through Goswell Management or a travel agency. I recommend you book through Goswell Management, they are open for bargain as well. Just go to the residence directly. - Rooms are small but fine to stay and study in. - Central heating is really poor though each room is provided with an electric heater (radiator) but it is really bad and the building is generally very cold to walk around. Price: 115-160 pounds per person/week (It depends if you are good at bargaining when you book via Goswell Management directly). This price covers all utilities but not the internet connection. Most residents are students. But you can stay there in summer or so if you are a traveler as well. This is the advantage of being an independent residence.
- Laundary coin-operated machines - CCTV - All rooms are single with bathroom - Two kitchens per floor, one kichen per 10 rooms (approximately), utensils and plates are provided. - Weekly rooms clean up and bed linens are weekly changed upon request - Internet access at each room at 15 pounds/month - you can have an overnight guests free of charge unlike many dorms. Well it was only used to sleep in. On my first morning after having a shower wich you would have to take on the ground floor but I stayed on first floor I went down to the kitchen to have breakfast but when I came down there people stood in line to get to the bread and the toaster. The breakfast would be bread, butter, jam and since I don't drink coffee or tea I went for the milk but it was sour ! Next morning I spoke to some people from Austria staying in the same room and they told me that there was corn flakes also but I never saw it. Any way for the rest of my stay there I went out and got my self a good english breakfast and that kept me going for the most of the day. But like i say this might be ok for that money but I don“t think it would. be a place I would go for again Leave a Comment Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 55-57 Bayham street CamdenPhone: 0044(0) 2073888900Directions: 5 min walk from Camden town st. underground

I live in the area, and, as I've heard good things about this camp site, I thought I'd pass the tip on. Campsites are rare in big cities - this is a 20 minute journey from central London by overground train (about an hour by bus).
The attraction is the setting - a lovely green area in the centre of the city. Crystal Palace, at first glance, is an ordinary unpretentious part of London - explore it further and you'll find fascinating shops, great local restaurants and good pubs, and roads that suddenly fall away, giving out onto stunning views over London and Kent. The camp site is right by a lovely park that was built on the former site of Crystal Palace (it burnt down in the 1930s), built for the great exhibition in mid 19th century and moved here from Hyde Park in central London. There ares till some strange remnants from the days of the great glass palace around the place - a dinosaur lake, a sphinx, grand balustrades and stairways ... The international athletics ground is very nearby too. Site is open all year round. Prices vary so much that it is better to contact them direct for a quote. ashlee house hostel is a well run no thrills hostel near kings cross. security seems much better there than in most other london hostels. the staff was very nice and helpful and they had good facilities in the hostel like laundry, internet and a nice common room where people were welcome to sit with their own beers after the pubs had closed at 23.00. the hostel is also a little more expensive than some other hostels in london, but it's also better run than most other hostels and i think most backpackers, especially female backpackers, would prefer to pay a couple of pounds extra to stay there.
nice reception staff that seems to genuinely like their job and the clients they are serving. The entrance and lobby are impressive.....polished dark wood, marble, comfy lounge sofas. The rooms a a little less modern than anticipated after seeing the lobby (as I usually like modern hotels), although my mother described it as quaint English style - so if thats what you are after you may like it. It has everything you need, and is spotless, but it was maybe a little 'English' for my liking as opposed to International. One plus was that our standard room no. 558 had a door opening onto a balcony, where we overlooked the pretty central courtyard with fountain. I imagine on a summers day this would be lovely. The bathroom is spotless, marble, with great shower. In comparison with my parents rooms next door, our bathroom was smaller but he bedroom bigger, and vice versa for my parents. I personally didn't class the room as small at all. There was a lounge chair, coffee table, 2 bedside tables, a desk, TV with about 10 channels, and mirrored bar alcove, with plenty of room for the 2 of us. The hotel apparently has a gym, although because we were only there one night we didn't use it. There is also a sauna and jacuzzi but no pool. Also within the hotel are 3 restaurants, and 2 bars. The bar we have visited many times before on previous trips is Zanders, which has the longest bar in Europe. Expect to pay a good £20 for a round, the same applies to the Hampton bar inside the hotel, where a Baileys, 2 whisky & Cokes and a Mai Tai cocktail were £28. Victoria tube station was baout 5-7 mins walks, past several cafes, cash points and if you must, a Mcdonalds & Burger King - all around the Victoria area. St James Park tube station is closer, although we didn't use that one.
The best thing for me was the location. It's not too far from the tube, it's on Buckingham gate which always feels very 'London' to me, and you are only 2 mins walk from the Queens house so that can't be bad. One of the best parts was getting off at Green Park tube station, and walking through the park, past the palace and then to the hotel, in total only a 15 minute walk. As a general rule, I really woulnd't worry which area of London you stay in, as long as it's relatively safe, and you are near a tube station, then you are sorted. | | | | London House Hotel: Cheap, clean and close to everything.

This was a fairly cheap hotel, close to 2 tube stations and many busses. In between HydePark and Nothing Hill. Steps from Kensingtong Park. It was clean, friendly staff (multilingual: Spanish, Polish, etc). Close to all kinds of restaurants(fast food, and nice ones) , convenience stores, supermarkets (2 bigs ones), post office, a mall. All you need to sleep. The only bad thing is the lack of an elevator to the upper floor rooms, no air conditioning. The quad room was big enough, but the triple (612) was just great. It even has a balcony and a TV. Did not try breakfast, we were told it wasn“t all that good, so we had breakfast at a small cafe near by.
It is in the middle of everything, yet, not too loud. Internet access (1 pond for 1/2 hour), and close to everything. On our honeymoon to Great Britain we chose this hotel for the London portion of our trip because of it's convenience. It is directly connected to the Victoria mainline railway station, with links to Gatwick Airport and the national rail system. We also loved the traditional British elegance is this fine 364 room hotel.
The hotel's ammenities include the popular Harvard Bar, The Grosvenor Lounge, and a good restaurant, Christopher's at Victoria, where we enjoyed the breakfast buffet on two mornings. It is also in easy walking distance to Bunkingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Hyde Park and many other points of interest.
