 | | | | Use the Search Engine To Find the Perfect One: Many Small, Inexpensive Hotels in London | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I've been having a "Senior Moment" about the name and location of the small, inexpensive hotel Jill and I stayed in while I visited London. Since Jill's still young, I thought she would remember, but, alas, she, too, has forgotten. Jill lived in London at the time, but she had 3 roommates; thus, we decided to use a hotel for our own privacy. Jill knew about this one hotel (I think that it started with a "M") in the Notting Hill Gate Area. We shared a room that had a sink and shower in the room, but we had to share the toilet with another couple of rooms. We had a great bed with a firm mattress, medium-sized room, TV, radio, and phone.
Continental Breakfast came with the room. We ate in a small basement room...it was always toast with orange marmalade and coffee. We were pleased because the price of the room was so inexpensive. It was close to the Tube station; it was clean; the management was friendly and efficient. I took this photo of a nice hotel across the street from ours. If anyone knows the location, let me know, please. Now, if only Jill or I could remember the name, we would share it with those of you looking for a good, inexpensive, well-located hotel in London! | | | | Generator London: Hostel With Life Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Hands down the best hostel in the world. Whatever you do, dont listen to all the old fart, boring critics who mud sling the Generator just cause they didnt get laid in the bar. With 857 beds, a fully licensed bar (open from 6pm til 2am. The cheapest bar in London) A full kitchen serving free breakfast, paid breakfast, and paid Dinners. A Swedish chef by the name of Henrik, cooks great meals for the traveler on a budget. I been to enough Hostels to write a book about them, and none come close to comparing to the atmosphere to the Generator. The easiest bar to meet people in, and get laid in. There are drinking games everyday of the week, that are great ways to meet people, and get the night started off right. Most of the staff are travelors themrselves, all looking to have a good time on their off time. There are a bunch of long timers for anyone looking to stay for a while. Its easy to get stuck in the "Generator trap" and end up staying for weeks, or even months. If you are looking for a nice quiet place, to read a book, and catch up on some sleep, then dont stay here. Not to say you cant get sleep here, after some nights in the bar, i have slept for 24 hours without being bothered. But the Generator is a palce to have fun, and meet people that you may stay in contact with for years to come... For more on the Generator, visit the following link to their website Generator Hostel * Please feel free to rate this tip, or any of my other tips. I am always looking to improve them. Thank you... | | | | Holiday Inn London Kensington Forum: Priceline again, this time in Kensington Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This was my fourth time using Priceline in London, this time I bid for Kensington/Earl's Court and got the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum for $70 per night + taxes, a block from the Gloucester tube station which is very convenient from Heathrow on the Piccadilly line, no transfers(40 minutes), and is also a District and Circle line stop. For the price I was satisfied with the hotel but it didn't measure up to other Priceline hotels we've stayed at in the 4* category. It's a big tour group hotel and also seemed to be popular with airline personnel. There is another Holiday Inn on Cromwell Road, the Forum is a very tall dark building, the other is a shorter light building. I'm sure they get each other's guests all the time.
Room-pretty good size room even by US standards, reasonably comfortable double bed with a down comforter, clothes presser, mini bar, hair dryer, TV (not a good selection of stations) and AC. Bathroom-shower had plenty of hot water, toiletries included soap and shampoo, good sized towels and two things that Americans seem to get hung up-washclothes and a sink with hot and cold water from the same faucet. Check in staff wasn't as professional as other hotels in this star level and even made reference to the fact that we were Priceline customers and not guaranteed a good room. At first we were put in a twin room but they did offer to relocate us the next day. Good thing as there was a loud noise coming from the pipes in the room all night long. This hotel claims to be the tallest in London, from our 11th floor room we could see over to the Earl's Court Exhibition center, on the other side you probably had views of Kensington Palace. | | | | Globetrotter Inn: Globetrotter Inn | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
For a long time now London has lacked a really great hostel. At last, this problem has been rectified. The Globetrotter is wonderful. From the sprawling, beautiful building and gardens to the amenities, it certainly can't get any better than this in London. And oh-so-clean. I asked the receptionist and she said that the bathrooms are cleaned five times a day. I can believe this-they sparkled. I stayed in a two person room, ensuite. The bathroom itself was larger than my entire room has been in most hostels.
Where do I start? The money cinema? The TV rooms? The concerige desk that booked my day tour to Canterbury and Leeds? The great Internet Cafe? The spacious kitchen? The individual curtains and reading lamps around the bunks? The GYM? The bar? The pleasant, soothing atmosphere? The grocery store? THIS is the way a hostel is supposed to be. Also, if you cut through the park to King Street there are loads of ethnic restaurants that are great values for your money. You can have your pick of Chinese, Persian, Polish, Japanese, continental, and Thai. Exit the station and take a left. Then take a right onto Ravenscourt. The hostel is the big sprawling brick structure on your left, about 50 meters down.Website: http://www.globetrotterinns.com/
