Covent Garden lobby

I thought maybe people would like to see the lobby of the Covent Garden. It was always staffed by very pleasant people. We left our key in an old fashioned cupboad behind the counter whenever we went out. It was a real key on attached to a leather bob with our room number on it, unlike modern hotels with room cards. Except for a couple of times when we forgot, we always left the key. ... The desk was staffed 24 hours a day. There was a laptop computer on a small table across from the counter with internet access ... I tried to get online once, but had some kind of trouble and I was too busy or tire the rest of the time. The floral arrangements were very unusual, I thought. I forgot to take a photo of the first one in the lobby, and I wish I had as I remember it being very striking (as this one is) and now can't visualize it.

If you like a bit more comfort than a bunkhouse will offer but are not willing to pay more than a room at the Travelodge or PremierInn would cost, then I recommend taking a look at this hotel. It offers competitive rates mostly beating the city locations of TravelPremierInnLodge and the like. I paid 75 pounds for my room, a somewhat spartanic Continental breakfast was included in that. The room offered sufficient wheelchair access with the bathroom being a bit small and uncomfortable due to a small shower seat -- a common mistake though. The hotel is located in a bohemian district that is fun to discover. Walking distance both to the financial district around Liverpool Street and the trendy parts of Shoreditch, Hoxton and Hackney. Excellent bus and tube connection to Holborn, Camden and Westminster. UPDATE 2007:Good rates for this hotel seem hardly attainable anymore -- each time I checked the rate exceeded 100 GBP -- for that rate the place is totally overpriced, don't go for it!

Booking a room at the Novotel London Tower Bridge turned out to be a very good choice throughout. The hotel offers very good accommodation without becoming totally unaffordable -- at least when you take advantage of their internet rates. I got a room for GBP 89 breakfast buffet included. The room itself was comfortable, offering very good disabled access. Very good breakfast buffet, good service, just as a hotel should be like. Especially as I have stayed here three times now and am also getting more experiences with other hotels in London, this hotel does stand out a bit. A sure recommendation.

The hotel's location is probably its biggest asset. It is just a stone's throw away from the London Tower and Fenchurch Street railway station. Liverpool Street station is still within walking distance. The West End is easily reached by tube or the Nr. 15 bus (wheelchair users).

Tired of roughing it at some dumpy dirty hostel. Save up and splurge on a few nights at The Ritz in London. No sharing a bathroom down the hall or being woken up by the snoring of the total stranger tourist that is booked in the same room with you. Well worth the hundreds, if not, thousands dollars a night I would say. That's why they have credit cards...

I am sitting on a couch of one of the luxury suites. Did I stay here when I was in London? Nope. I couldn't afford a stay in the broom closet.

Recently stayed in the Travel inn at Excel (the exhibition centre). There are loads of new hotels springing up around here, including an Etap and a Ramada. When there is not a conference / exhibition on then many of the rooms are available and only cost between 40 and 60 pounds a night. Transport links are limited - but the DLR is increasingly useful and reliable. Another example is the Holiday Inn express at Canning Town (£60 a room with cont. Breakfast), Standard hotel, as you would expect from a train but right next to Canning Town Tube (jubilee line) which is only eight stops from the heart of the West End.

Unlike most hotel in central London, if you arrive by car, it can be parked for free here.

Best Western Burns Hotel

The Hotel was incredibly good value for central London with an excellent breakfast included in the rate. The location was perfect for the Royal Albert Hall and also many of the Museums. The room was quite small but had everything we needed and really was ideal as we were out all the time.

Good, clean room near the tube station. Best of all the hotel was quiet - no road noise, people noise etc

Reception Hyde Park Inn

It is a very cheap and basic hostel for travellers. I shared a dorm with 3 Korean girls - their English was limited but when I asked them about their experience here (they had been staying for an incredible 10 days!!!), they didn't sound too favourable. The rooms are very small and cramped and in summer the window is permanently open. An electric fan had also been provided. There were 3 sets of bunk beds in our room but I think there are some rooms with 4. There is a sink in the room but toilets and showers are situated outside in the halls and on the landings. (There were "iron shaped" burns in the hall carpets where people had been doing their ironing on the floor!)

There is a good mix of older and younger people here. It is VERY centrally located in Bayswater and there is no curfew. Reception is manned 24 hours a day and they are strict on security.

Le Meridien Russell

This hotel is in the process of renovation and if you don't mind staying in the old section, it is a great deal - about $100 a night for a double room. It is clean, a bit old-fashioned in decor - tapestry curtains, etc. - but a perfect neighborhood for shopping and eating, etc. You can walk to the theater district and the British Museum is only a couple of blocks away. For not much more than the Paddington/Bayswater hotels, it is by far worth it for the location. Safe and lively neighborhood, too.
