Theater- Million Dollar Quartet at......

by kntaBuddha

Noel Coward Theater - the story of a early rock & roll session involving Presely, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. I believe I have a general understanding that it is mostly about the music and not much a story as such. What I don't know, is anything about the actual theater building - nice or dump? Nor do I have any idea of the talent of the performers. I believe it just started this month so it may be a little early for any feedback. What is the general refund poicy? Would it be smart to purchase ahead and cancel if need be or no refunds given period. Thanks - I do appreciate all the help.

It is still Previewing - opens 28 Feb.
If you buy your tickets in advance you may be stuck with them unless it is a sell-out show when you would lose an amount off each ticket for admin. charges.

This site may help: http://www.theatremonkey.com/ - information about shows and theatre layouts, seating plans etc.

There's a review from someone who attended a preview http://www.theatremonkey.com/NOELCOWARDbooking.htm

A perfectly ordinary Victorian proscenium-arch playhouse, used to be the 'New' and then the Albery.

I'm sure the show will be appalling, and the more you're into Presley or Cash the worse it will be.

Ride the Eye on London. This is the biggest damn Ferris Wheel you have ever seen and is well worth the wait and cost. It offers views you imagined but could not realize until now. I was very fortunate that it was a rare, beautiful, blue sky day when I rode! A midnight ride on the Thames in a small boat.

Blue Plaques

by Jenniflower

If you wander around London long enough you will eventually see a blue plaque attached to the front of a building somewhere, as there are over 800 in London.

They were started in 1867, with the thought to commemorate someone famous who had lived/worked/died in that building.

These are the 5 most famous plaques:

Sherlock Holmes ~ Fictional British consulting detective @ 221b Baker Street

Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870) ~ Novelist @ 48 Doughty Street

Karl Marx (1818 - 1883) ~ German social, economic and political theorist @ 28 Dean Street

John Logie Baird (1888 - 1946) ~ British (Scottish) engineer who invented television (TV) @ 22 Frith Street

John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917 - 1963) ~ 35th American president @ 14 Princes Gate

UPDATE April 2006: I was at Kew Gardens this weekend (Easter Sunday), and saw a blue plaque! It was for Camille Pissarro, the French Impressionist artist, who lived at this address in 1892. This plaque is found in Gloucester Street, Kew.

Ride on a Routemaster bus!

by Jenniflower

This is a special way to travel around London, its so easy to hop on and off them as they go around corners etc. Not always the best for health and safety probably, as you have to be quite daring at times, but it is more convenient.

Update (Nov 2005)
The Routemasters are being phased out now.. a few will still do historical tours, but the every day commuters will now have modern double decker buses and bendy buses to use only now. Such a pity, but it all comes down to economics :(

Update (December 2006)
If you are keen to ride in a routemaster, you still can! Everey night I see the no. 9 going from Picadilly Circus to the Royal Albery Hall... and it's a route master! It also goes to Trafalgar Square.

"Full English Breakfast"

by ZanieOR

Our first morning in London we went to a neighborghood-place (Called Magnet M, I believe) that sold deli-type sandwiches, pastry etc., for a "full English breakfast."
It included an egg, sausage and bacon, tomato, mushroom and beans (of the "pork and bean" variety for the benefit of American consumer).
While it was worth a try, it was a little heavy and not really totally compatible with our palates. I tried one again later in the week at a more upscale place (we got free breakfasts at our hotel three mornings), but I think I'll stick with lighter fare.
