Accomodation near London Docklands

by mickey.p

Hi,

I have decided to visit the World Travel Market on 11th November but need somewhere to stay the night beforew - all the major hotels are booked up so I was wondering if there's any B&B's in the area?

I am not familiar with London at all so don't want to stay to far away and I don't have a large Budget!

Can anyone recommend a guest house etc etc?

There might be a couple of us travelling for work purposes so an apartment may be an option.

Thanking you all in advance!

Hi, Did you try Crowne Plaza? Good location & rates.

There are very, very few b&bs in London...what you see advertised are actually small hotels/guesthouses.

Start by looking at www.booking.com (a reliable site with honest guest reviews and good mapping) and the official London tourist info site:

www.visitlondon.com/accommodation

which lists all accommodation in the city. You are unlikely to find apartment accommodation for just one night, although there are a few serviced apartments which offer this facility.

If you have to stay further away, public transport is good. Use the journeyplanner on the official Transport for London website:

http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk

to work out how to get from whichever hotel you find accomm at to the Travel Market itself.

I live very close to that area and I can think of no B&B's or gusthouses anywhere close. Also, beware of some of the so-called "hotels" at the bottom end of the price scale in the East End as they are effectively places where the authorities put homeless people etc. and I would not advise them at all.

Less expensive chain options are Travelodge and Premier Inn. Don't forget to include optios South of the river Thames in your searches as you can easily travel as far South as Lewisham on the docklands Light Railway.

Hope this assists,

Fergy.

Thank you to you all for the advice!

Not sure how we managed it but we have bagged the Custome Hotel which is apparantly directly opposite the Excel!

It's no cheap but when we added the cost to get to and from London if we stayed more central, it worked out virtually the same.

I don't think Custome House Hotel is anything grand but it seems clean so thats the main thing!

Travel Tips for London

Marble Arch.

by mwe

Not so much my favourite thing about London, but it is the ideal place to begin your tour of central London's west end.
Marble Arch, at the northern end of Park Lane, marks the western extremity of London's premier shopping street, Oxford Street & the northeastern corner of central London's main 'green lung' Hyde Park.
It is a very short walk from Marble Arch tube station.

Visit the Tower, Westminster...

Visit the Tower, Westminster Abbey, Picadilly-Circus, Buckingham Pallace, and, ... London have to much objects of interest!
Besuchen Sie unbedingt den Tower, Westminster Abbey, Picadilly Circus, Buckingham Palast, und, und, ... London hat so viele Sehenswuerdigkeiten, dass man gar nicht alle aufzaehlen kann!

Monument

by ratherton

Monument Tube Station gets it's name from the monument next to it for the Great Fire of London of 1666. The fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane and in a matter of days, most of London was destroyed.

Souvenirs buying...

by A2002

As a tourist, I am sure you will want to buy some souvenirs. Go to Piccadilly Circus and look out for those small stalls along the streets. As far as I know, they are the cheapest.
My most recent travel to London in Oct 2002, those small stalls near Westminster are selling the souvenirs at competitive prices too.

London's most romantic meeting point?

by irisbe

"Meet me under the clock."
Waterloo station, the biggest train station in London, easy to get lost? Difficult to find your friends?
Many people have found each other in this huge train station meeting under this beautiful Victorian clock.
It hangs in the middel of the hall of the station.
Some say it is the most romantic meeting point in UK.
I would not be able to tell as I was not going for romance but for traveling :-)
