I like Oxford Street near Marble Arch. It is one of the more popular shopping areas in London. All the stores are there, Selfridges, Marks and Spencers, etc. Also plenty of great restaurants and assorted eateries.

I agree. get down to Oxford Street and start at Marble Arch end and continue. Along the north side (left as you proceed) you have the M&S and Selfridges but plenty of other shops and stores. At Oxford Circus you can walk down Regent Street towards Piccadilly Circus.

Yes the western end of Oxford Street should keep you gaping and shopping to your heart's content.

Aim for Bond Street station or there are numerous bus routes from all areas

Covent Garden is a nice, compact place to shop, as well as the usual shops there are some quirky places too, and some nice cafes. Check out Neal street and the market area. (You get street entertainment thrown in too!) Happy shopping!

Definitely, Oxford St. is the prime location. I was just there today! The not so expensive shops include Primark (near Marble Arch), Zara and H&M. Another fun street is the King's Road... lots of small boutiques and larger ones, too.

I would agree that the western end of Oxford Street is the best place to start, but if you are into shopping malls, then Westfield is worth checking out, for its mix of designer and high street stores. Wood Lane tube.

Do I understand this, you have two hours for yourselves for shopping? That's not very much,if it is to include the time from your meeting point and back again. If your meeting point is close to Oxford Street, by all means go there.

If it is closer to the north, check out if you can go to Camden market. There are lots of stalls with all kinds of things and on weekdays it's not too crowded. But you'd need a tube ride to get there and this will take away some of your time.

And don't forget Harrods in Knightsbridge, more expensive, but at least the food hall is something to gape at.

Travel Tips for London

The Covent Garden market

by bzh

Covent Garden is one of my favourite places in London. Have a walk round the market at the week-end, browsing the shops. Watch the show on the street. And when you need a break, stop at a coffee shop in the South Hall, where a space is set aside in the lower gallery for musicians to play classical music for some spare change.

Swans on the Pond

by ATXtraveler

I was sure impressed at how beautiful and well kept all of the parks that we visited were. While we were walking through the parks, we came across many swans that were calmly enjoying the middle of this pond.

The flora and fauna were definitely not expected in such a busy city!

Enjoy some time sitting out and smelling the fresh air!

The Imperial war museum

by benazer

On a rainy day you can wisit one of many museums in London.
This museum at south London not far from Waterlo is interesting. Have been looking at this museum all my life, well since I was eleven maybe.

Changing of the Guards

by viddra

The Changing of the Guard presents a colourful spectacle. It takes places daily at 11.30.

Accompanied by a band, the new guard marches from a nearby barracks to the palace, where the troops form up facing the old guard.

As the changeover takes place, the officers of the old and new contingents advance and touch left hands to symbolize the transfer of keys.

Visit the Office of the Mayor of London

by scottishvisitor

This building is home to the Greater London Authority or GLA as it is more commonly known. Decisions on the general day to day business of London are carried out here. We saw lots of taxis leaving London Bridge Station in the mornings = I guess a lot of Civil Servants were going to work at this building.
