Travel Tips for London

Buses and Undrerground

by stavrianna

The buses and especially the night buses are there all the times!!! Or maybe i just got lucky as my friends told me. My best memory of London is that although i hate gymnastics i walked so much i got worked out all my leg muscles just in the museums!!! I think only New York can be compared when the subject is art. The mayority of all the greatest art works are in these two cities!!!

The melting building - London's City Hall

by Jenniflower

I am sure this building has raised many an eyebrow, and thrown many a question.

It is situated on the banks of the River Thames, near the Tower Bridge. It is surrounded in glass (one can see inside, it is not one-way glass), but one can't really see what the Mayor is up to unfortunately! :)

I happen to think it is stunning. Weird coming from me you might think! haha I love old architecture, but this building is so 'out there', and is so different and daring, it surely earns some praise? More glass buildings have been finished now close to it, so it doens't stand alone as much as it used to. It is still the most exquisite of the glass buildings though.

If you would like to tour this building, you may. Have a look at the website below.

Buy one of the Prodigy's...

by Bluereptile

Buy one of the Prodigy's albums:- Prodigy Experience, Music for the Jilted Generation, Fat of the Land My favorite album is the Prodigy Experience, but I still liked the other albums. Keith Flint is definately messed up Essex geezer head, look at him. Cool though.

Attend the Diwali Celebration

by SJTravel

If you get a chance to be in London during Diwali (October/November), definitely check out their Diwali Celebration. While I was there, it was held in Trafalgar Square. Diwali is a major Indian festival significant to Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism. It is the Festival of Lights and celebrates good and hope. Diwali actually takes place over 5 days, but they have a big celebration on one of the days. That day they transformed Trafalgar Square. There were these beautiful lights in the fountains. They had a huge stage with lots of musical performers, dancers, and speakers. And the square was filled with people wanting to celebrate. It was such a treat to be able to celebrate. Even if you don't stay for the entire thing, it is worth going to just check it out.

The Guards Memorial Statue

by irisbe

At the St James park you will notify this rather huge war memorial statue.

It is the Guard’s Memorial Statue.

This memorial statue was original erected in 1926 to honour the 5 royal foot Guards regiments that have fought during WWI.
The statue is made out of Portland stone and the bronze figures, each representing a regiment, are made from guns taken from the Germans during the war.
You can observe the 5 different regiment emblems in bas-relief; accompanied by 5 wreathes, bearing the same emblems as the ones on the statue.

Later on, after WWII, an additional text was encrypted to commemorate the regiment soldiers who lost their lives during that WWII.
