Summer Dormitory in Highgate Village

I spent five nights in the summer of 2009 here in Furnival Hall, which is a dormitory of the University of Westminster. The great recommendation of this place is the pleasure of staying in Highgate Village, which is a great small neighborhood - historic and close to the great green spaces of Waterlow Park and Hempstead Heath.

Furnival Hall dates from 1917 - it was built as a dormitory for workers during World War I. It has been extensively renovated now; the rooms are clean and pleasant, if modest. Summer accomodation is a great deal - includes kitchen privileges and wireless internet access.

(There are several interesting restaurants in Highgate Village - and a convenient small Tesco Express grocery that is open late.)

Camden Dorm Life

by yooperprof about University of London/Camden Road

Another affordable dorm option over the summer hols: the facilties of the University of London. They have several dormitory centers located throughout the city; I stayed in their dorms off Camden Road, about 1/2 mile from the Camden tube stop. This was somewhat "basic" - more spartan than the accomodations I had in Highgate at Furnival House. On the plus side, the U. of London dorms were even better value, because they included a full English breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, cereal, etc.) as part of the basic rate.
(about $38 a night)

I stayed at the Ifor Evans Hall. There was a Tesco Express a hundred meters or so up the road.
