Accommodation in London can...

by MrGQ

Accommodation in London can get very expensive in the summer time. There are three known accommodation in London:

conventional hotels, B&Bs and a less known option is appartments. If there is more than one person in your group .. then an appartment might be a better value!

There is also a fourth option which very few tourists know about .. Universties and Colleges! No I don't mean you should enroll in school! But a few schools in the summer time lease their dorms out to tourists. It is a very good value if you are a light traveler (no kidds or lots of luggage). You ccan get a room as low as $20 a night!! So, for those looking to save some money this might be an option worth looking at. Here is a list of some of the schools that offer rooms during the summer:

University of London, City University, University of Westminister and Imperial College are some of the Colleges that opens their doors to tourists during the Summer vacations.

By the way there are a lot of schools doing the same thing outside of London. But since this is a London's Page I did not list them! So if you need to travel to the South near the Channel or North in Scotland let me know and I'll give you names of some of the schools there that provide siummer accommodation.

Ok now I'll move to the other option. Apartments. A bit more expensive than dorms but they have more privacy and a few of them have kitchens which means you can (if you want) save on your restaurant bills! There aare tons of apartment agencies in London that specialize in short term leases. It has been a while since I used any of these but they are easy to find through any good travel agent or even online. If you need help drop me a line I'll see what I can do!! :)

Now to the other more common types of accommodation. I'll start with a couple of great B&Bs (Bed n Breakfast)

Swiss House Hotel:
a Victorian B&B in South Kinsington.Friendly owners and offers a few extra services that most B&Bs don't. Such as basic room service and message! Great location!

Hyde Park House:
a very simple clean B&B. The rooms are a bit small but it is also very inexpensive!

Now to the more upscale hotels. You want class then you go for one of the following:
The Savoy,The Ritz, Claridge's or The Dorchester.
They are as classy as you can get in London! The Halkin is just as classy but in a modern hip chic way! Unlike the other ones that have that traditional imperial upperclass feel, this one has that modern high tech feel! I love its interior!

OK enough with classy hotels! Lets move down to earth!

The Amber Hotel: located in Kinsington, a beautifully decorated hotel. The rooms are very quiet and the breakfast is genrous! It is also very close to the underground station. Great location and excellent value .. in my opinion of course! If you should go to london off peak season, the price drops to where it becomes a must!
