Stonehenge at night
by feats
Is there any possibility of taking a photo of the monoliths at night after hours?
How far are you kept away after hours? Can it be seen at first light before the park opens?
Thanks...

If you want even better photos of monoliths, travel to Avebury. You can go right up to the stones there and the number of them is much larger than at Stonehenge. I was amazed to see what's there compared to Stonehenge which is rather out of bounds for getting close. I'm sure there are quite a few pages here on VT about Avebury, plus a very interesting mound which is close by.

You can get fairly close to Stonehenge - the main road is within about 100 - 200m of the stones. So you're close enough to take photo's but maybe not close enough to take really amazing photo's!

I am afraid you are too late for up close & personal with Stounhange!
The autorities let Joe Public near the stones,( pritty colose as next to them within the circle) only 2 times a year, for the summer & winter solstess.
That is only time when you can wander around & within them and take good photos.
As mentioned above M4(I think it's M4 or it was M3) motorway is passing literary on the boundary of the Stounhange circle.
The security is tight at the moment becouse they are finishing up with some very important escevations right withing the monolites circle. Aparently this is first time they opened Stounhange in 75 yrs.
Travel Tips for London

Do an open Red Bus Tour of London especially on a sunny day. Travel down the the Thames from London to Hampshire Castle. Watch the changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Loved the shopping at Harrods and down Oxford Street.
Portugal Street
by SoulFisher
I bit of my chauvinism here. Portugal street is a small street in Westminster, close to the West End's area of theaters. The London School of Economics is located here. Across Kingsway. Nearest tube stations: Holborn, Temple or Convent Garden.
Embankment Bridg
by Sharon
Is that the name by the way ? couldnt recall any other name..
However This bridge is just a few meters from Embankment station. walking at night on this bridge is really Lovely. the river and the lights are beautiful... everything feels really nice and romantic.... I think it was in my first or second visit at that year... one night we walked at that area and my Bf wanted to walk on the bridge and show me its beauty... it was such simple walk and felt wonderful....
I miss this moments chamudi....
Pub signs works of art
by ZanieOR
Every public house (pub) in England is identified with a sign hanging outside.
Many of them are works of art and I started taking photos of all that I could as I walked the streets of London.
They are wonderful as are the names given to the pubs. I'm a fan of Martha Grimes who uses the names of English pubs as titles for her books. I used to think she made them up ... no more!
See my Pub Sign travelogue for more photos of and more info about pub signs.
The Accent - Part 1
by sjvessey
The accent generally recognised by tourists as 'British English' is technically known as received pronunciation (RP) and is associated not with any particular geographic location, but with level of education. The term 'received' means 'accepted in the best society'. RP is usually what English people mean (consciously or unconsciously) when they refer to someone as 'not having an accent' or having a 'neutral' accent. It usually is found in the upper-middle or upper classes, i.e. is not used by the majority of the UK population. This accent is sometimes referred to as 'BBC English', since until the 1970s, no BBC television presenter had anything other than this accent as a matter of policy.
