Marriott County Hall Hotel

The room is very good, but the carpets and other interior aspects in the public areas could use some upgrading, especially considered the price you pay! The facilities are great and so are the views from your room! You have tea and coffee in your room and you get new cookies whenever you ask for them. You have a very nice amrble bathroom with everything you need. In the morning you get a newspaper of your choice. I had a great time in this hotel!

Unique Quality: Very centrally located 5*hotel hotel. This hotel offers everything you would expect from Marriott and a hotel in this class, including swimming pool, solarium, fitness room, 24hr room service etc.

Week at Marriott County Hall Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member robroyI

Last September we stayed at Marriott's County Hall hotel in London, England for one week. The hotel and its staff were great -- always offering tips on places to see, places to eat and offering great directions. The hotel was centrally located --London Eye (the big ferris wheel) was outside our window and Big Ben was just across the bridge. We were able to walk to almost everything thanks to all the bridges crossing the Thames river. London is very easy to get around. Its very much like New York City. The exchange rate was terrible but the prices of food and sightseeing was much less then we anticipated. The London pubs were wonderful; a good place to meet and speak with the locals and get some fine, inexpensive food.

a lovely setting for tea

by KittyLou about The Library Marriott County Hall

In this historic reference room for London's civil servants you now can enjoy afternoon tea. The price is reasonable too, unlike many London options. The whole tea was delightful, and I had no trouble getting my favorite herbal choice-- mint, while my husband sipped Earl Grey

Old County Hall

by cheezecake_deli

London's old County Hall is a six-storey massive building in Edwardian Baroque style located on the south bank of the Thames across from the Houses of Parliament. It was built in 1911-1922 and served as the headquarters of the Greater London Council until it was abolished by Margaret Thatcher in 1986. In the last few years, the handsome building has been redeveloped and now houses two hotels (the Marriott County Hall and Premier Travel Inn) as well as a number of (second-rate) visitor attractions (the London Aquarium, Dali Universe, Movieum and Fright Club). The ticket office of the London Eye is also located here. There are several restaurants and cafes if you need a break from all that sightseeing.

Big Ben from my window

Had a wonderful time in London.Stayed at the Marriott County Hall. Very nice room, good view, Lovely Continental breakfast. Had a bit of a problem in the room AC, but managed, in spite of the heat coming on occasionally.

Also took a day trip to Paris - via the Chunnel and a day trip to Bath.

Packed a lot of fun and sight-seeing in ten days. Eating at street stalls is not recommended, but I really enjoyed the pancakes just across the bridge from the hotel.

Thanks for your info.

Great central location

by A TripAdvisor Member

Beautiful hotel! Great location. The hotel is located right next to the London Eye along the Thames, and just across the bridge is Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament, and the nearest underground station (maybe an 8 minute walk). The rooms in this hotel are very spacious, clean and well appointed. Only complaint is that there is only one set of elevators on one side of the building - if you're room is on the opposite end, it's a good 7 minute walk from the elevator to your room.
Ask for rooms closer to the elevator. The only good part about the rooms location is it overlooked the river and the London Eye.

Great Experience

by A TripAdvisor Member

Four Southern ladies ventured to London, England and stayed at the County Hall Marriott. It was wonderful! The staff were extremely helpful, the location could not be better, and the food was delicious, especially their breakfast. It is on the Thames River next to the London Eye. A bus stop is right around the corner and you walk across the bridge to a Tube stop. We had a view of Big Ben and Parliament. When I return to London, I will be staying there again.

Tourist Neighbourhood in London

by nad01

I will be visiting London for the first time for the weekend. Which neighbourhood is recomended for staying if I would like to make the best use of my days to see as much as I can? Kensington, St. James, Bayswater? Any suggestions? It should also be save place to stay. How can I get around in an inexpensive way?

Bloomsbury is popular and it is close to the British Museum. There are lots of little hotels with breakfast along Gower Street. And there's also the St. Giles which is right by the Goodge tube stop. Lots of buses go down Gower Street.

For the weekend, get a weekend tube/bus pass - pretty cheap and gets you on anything zone 1 and 2 Saturday and Sunday.

Hi

Of the areas you mentioned, St. James is probably the most central for walking to tourist sights. You can walk to Westminster Abbey, Parliament, St. James's Park, and even Buckingham Palace. The hotels in this area tend to be upscale (and expensive). Mayfair is also central, and quite upscale.

The area around Victoria Station is also fairly central, and there are some lower-cost hotels here. And one of the more popular "budget" hotels in central London is just over Westminster Bridge from Parliament: the Travel Inn County Hall. In the same building: the Marriott County Hall (expensive).

Other than walking, which is a good way to reach many places in London, the extensive Underground (subway) and bus system is probably the least expensive way to get around town.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions or need details.

What do you think about the area of Bayswater for staying. It seems a little less expensive. But is it recomended?
