British museum
The British museum is huge, you have to select a particular hystorical period or region.
I was interested in pre-mongol Anatolia but unfortunately I found only one room about.

Hello all
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good hostel which is in the above named areas? I'm not ruling the likes of Clapham or Elephant&Castle area either but i'd like to be close to Waterloo or London Bridge stations if i can. It's only a flying visit to London after all.
Also can you tell me which airport is best used if i want to arrive at these places the quickest? Gatwick is it?
Many thanks everyone!
DG
The First Capital Connect services are good from Gatwick to London Bridge.

Obviously, living in London I have never stayed there but I have heard good comments about the St. Christophers hostel in London Bridge (about five minutes walk from the station. Here is a link.

Gatwick is definitely your best bet although if you must go to Heathrow, I suggest you get a local bus to Feltham and then there are excellent train connections into Waterloo.
hope this assists,
fergy.
Nice one lads.
I've taken those suggestions on board. That Christophers place looks like the ticket alright :)
Glad to be of help.

I always like to read up on a place before I go to learn more about it and then after my return to reminice. The same can be said for movies. So, I will attempt to list some of my favorites set in London.
Films:
The Very Thought of You (aka: Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence)
Pride and Prejudice (the 6-hour BBC/A&E miniseries -- partially in London)
About a Boy
The Importance of Being Earnest
Mary Poppins
Bend it Like Beckham
High Heels and Low Lifes (ok, ok, I don't really remember this -- but Minnie Driver is in it!)
Books:
London After Midnight (Short story mysteries)
Why am I drawing a sudden blank on all my favorites? Well, email me if you have any additions!
I like leicester square, cinemas around the square from vue to odeon, best attraction is during film premiere where you could see celebrities in the flash.
Odeon often use a venue for the Brits Orange Awards (if not mistaken).
Good place to spot celebrities
SHOP! SHOP!! SHOP!!!
That's me in the pic shopping along Knightsbridge where the famed HARROD'S and HARVEY NICHOLS department stores are located.
I don't like Harrod's for its snooty attitude. After my mandatory first visit to that store, I decided to give it a miss and concentrate on Harvey Nichols instead. Anyhow, the sales staff at Harvey Nic's are much friendlier and more pleasant! Oh well.....
Before I went to London I kept reading disparaging remarks about pigeons, especially in Trafalgar Square: how dirty they are, don't feed them, the mayor calling them "flying rats."
Our Big Bus tour guide repeated the flying rat reference, and I think it could be considered a London custom to despise the lowly pigeon. I admit I couldn't quite look at them in the same way.
When I was at Trafalgar Square and saw a pigeon apparently doing its thing on one of the sculptures I couldn't resist cranking up my zoom and recording the image.
