London Continental Hotel
by wadekorzan about London Continental Hotel
60 pounds This is a great little hotel that is in a quiet area yet only 2 stops from picadilly. I loved it. Very clean and safe. Gloucester street is nice to walk, and Baker street has some cafes and internet...and you only about 5 blocks or so if you want to walk to Oxford street.

After journeying through the countryside by day, I returned to London by night and wandered around some familiar territory before returning to the hotel. London is a good walking city, whether it is day or night. Of course, I wanted to see the famous clock tower that holds Big Ben at night.
Opposite the river from Westminster is the London Eye. I will likely save riding on it for a future visit.
Parliament's Neogothic facade is also lit up at night.
London's most beloved bridge is also lit up. Good views can also be attained by walking on to the bridge.
There are also some lights on the famous Tower of London, but not so much as other monuments. I suppose that too much light would frighten the ghosts away.

"Day 1 & 2 London"
~Day 1~
After Stansted Express to the London city, checked in at Cardiff Hotel London - which I found on the internet. Small hotel, but comfy with good reviews. Bathroom was very small as compared to our hotel in Glasgow, but expected. However, the location was good in Central London near Paddington station and the staffs are quite pleasant.
There is not much can be covered today as by the time we settled down it is closed to 4 PM, but we managed to go for the Tower Bridge exhibition. After that had a walk for more sightseeing - St Paul Cathedral, and cross the Millenium Bridge to Tate Modern before proceeding to Picadilly for some dinner.
~Day 2~
Took a one day tour with Astral Travel to Stonehenge, Bath and Windsor. Stonehenge was expected - people from VT forum have been telling me that Avebury is much nicer, but I guess for the "I have been there" pictures and sightseeing it is not bad.
Romans Bath and Pumps are not as good as I expected though - I expected it to me more grand. But the city looks quite a beautiful and cosy place to stay in.
Windsor Castle was great - managed to enter Queen's Apartment, it also offers audio guide, but I didn't take it due to lack of time. This looks more grand than Palace of Holyroodhouse, but somehow I think I like Palace of Holyroodhouse better? I wonder why.
At night, we went to Covent Garden for dinner and then a brief walk at Soho and Chinatown.
"Day 3 & 4 London"
~Day 3~
Went to Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guards, but too bad we missed the front part. In the afternoon we went to Natural History Museum and Science Museum - didn't have much time to cover much today we had to go back to charge our battery - both the camera and ourselves.
Had a brief visit to The National Gallery to admire Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflower. This is very near Trafalgar Square. And in the evening walks at Oxford Circus.
~Day 4~
We did quite a lot today - early in the morning spent a couple of hours at Madame Toussauds. Took lots of pictures with the stars. Then went to Harrods at Knightbridge. Things are so nice to see! But so pricy! Next to Selfridges, Oxford Circus for lunch (salt beef).
After that, a visit to The British Museum - no regrets for not skipping this. But we could have spent longer time on this. In the evening, spent time at the Waterloo for the London Eye - yes, magnificent views! Sights of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and House of Parliament.
At night we went to Gloucester Road hunting for the Sainsbury's - to get some chocolates! By the time we got home after our BK dinner, it was approaching midnight.
"Day 5 London"
After check out, returned to Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guards. This time, we managed to see the whole thing - excellent.
And I miss home so much by the end of the trip! And I miss my pillow and bed and everything at home!

Hotel London

I'm looking for a hotel in London. I've been looking on the Internet for a while now, but it looks virtually impossible to find a hotel in London that is decent and which I can pay without first haveing to rob a bank or win the lotto.
Any ideas?

Can you let us know your acceptable price range?
RE: RE: Hotel London
by ManuNeko
I was thinking about something around € 50,00 up to € 100,00 for a room.

I've been several times to London, and never found a "cheap" place where I wished to return. But there are exceptions, have a look at The Lancaster Hotel (complete details in my London VT page).
Good luck!

If you Google "cheap accommodation london" you will come up with lots of options. You will have to work at it to find something that suits you but there is quite a choice in all sorts of locations, some central, some not so, and some outside of the central London area.

It's in a good location and they've stayed there several times.. plus the price is right.

Hallo June,
thank you very much for that hotel tip because I was always looking for something to stay for my friend and her boyfriend while coming to London. because I have a friend living there but only in a small apartment where the two of us have space - but with your help I can maybe bring them next time because that hotel appears to be right across the street from the place where my friend lives.
Thank you very much :) and have a nice week

Glad I could be of help. I live near London so rarely, if ever, need a hotel for myself. But I like to see where my friends stay!

We stayed in Bloomsbury and there are several reasonable hotels there. We stayed at the Ridgemont, but I can't find their webpage anymore but I was also considering the St. Giles. Doubles with ensuite range from 74 to 119 pounds/night for 2 people without breakfast. They have a pool and are quite near the tube stop.
http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/london-central-postcode.html is a pretty good search engine for hotels.

Smoothhound is a good site but the one i use that i've found good prices on is http://www.londonnights.com. I have a hotel booked for January for 55 pounds a night including continental breakfast and reserved one last year for 60 with same. both in the Lancaster Gate/Paddington area. Last year's was the Paddington Hotel and this year's is the London Guards.

Hello,
maybe check:
www.st-christophers.co.uk/london-hostels
They've got 7 hostels in London, one of them only few kilometres from Oxford Street. We've stayed at the Camden Hostel for a couple of days last year and it was alright.
