Stanstead - London Train tickets

by Jontxu

Hi there!!
I am flying to stanstead on friday, and I would like to know if it is worthy to buy tickets in advance, does it save time, is it possible? Are those open to any train?
Thanks in advance
Jon

You may be able to buy tickets online through

https://www.stanstedexpress.com/

The site says you save 2GBP on the fare you would pay at the station. The tickets are 'open' which means you can use them on any train departure.

I suppose it might save a bit of time, if there are queues at the ticket office/ticket machines.

So it is up to you (and depends on whether your card is accepted by the site, of course).

When I booked my ticket with Easy Jet or Ryan Air there was an option to purchase a ticket through them for a discount, I think it was 10% or 15% off. If you booked with either one, you might check it out. I think we had to specify a day but not a time but I don't remember.

Hi Jon
The Stansted Express is the main and only dedicated train connection between Stansted and London. In addition to getting from Stansted to Liverpool Street Station without changing, you can also get off at Tottenham Hale station and proceed to the London Underground system where you can go to many other parts of London.

If you are flying Easy Jet then have a look at this page:

https://www.stanstedexpress.com/easyjet/Tickets.asp

The saving to buy a return ordinary 2nd class ticket is only £2.90 by using the pre booking machine offered. Maybe you can just collect tickets at the ticket office at the station.

There are alternative ways of getting into London by bus. It depends on your final destination really.

Maybe you know that we have heavy snow these days but Stansted is operating. Best to also look at the Easy Jet (if you are travelling with them) or other airline web site and the Stansted one : http://www.stanstedairport.com/

Hope you have a good time.

When checking in for Stansted at Hahn airport in Germany, people are addressed and asked if they want to buy tickets for the Stansted Express. At least once we were also asked again in the plane by RyanAir staff.
We never bought them, as we weren't going to London, but it will save time as you won't have to queue again. I don't know these tickets are more expensive or not.

Travel Tips for London

Monument to George Washington

by littlesam1

I was very surprised to find this monument to George Washington in London. George Washington was the leader of the American Revolution and the first president of The United States so I did not expect to find a monument to him in London. I believe this was near Trafalgar Square but I am not real sure. I did not take good notes on where I found this monument. But it was a good feeling as an American to find this monument to George Washington right in the middle of London.

Spring Sunset

by eho

Take a stroll in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. If your goal of the trip is not to cover as many tourist sites as possible, then these two parks are for you to take a break from the hustle and bustle and smell the fresh air.

Tower Bridge

by irisbe

When you have time left (and money) you might consider to visit the Tower Bridge inside.
I however lacked the time so I keep it for a next visit.

Do have a look at the official website! You will find already quite some information here!

Getting Out of The Rain

by riorich55

This was a hard picture to really catagorize here in VT. When I saw this woman enter the new entrance way to St. Martin in the Fields to get out of the rain I was brought back many years to when I first saw the movie Mary Poppins and the old lady who cried "Tuppence" to feed the birds. Not really wanting to intrude on her privacy I took this picture from the other side of the glass entrance. What struck me was her simple pleasure of just being out of the rain and peeling back a kiwi to eat.

Tube Etiquette No 3: Talk on Public transport

by Cham

Never, think it's a good idea to start talking to people on the tube that you don't know, about 97% of the time (especially during the week) you'll get ignored or just a stare from the other person who is now worried that you've either got mental health problems or that you're about to attack them. Worse case senario is when the other person thinks that you're "intersted" in them.

Honestly the tube would be a better place if people just talked with each other and weren't so stand-offish, and on the weekends this is usually true beacuse people have had a few drinks. People look miserable on the tube and they behave that way... not excusable but its understandable though every day crammed into a sardine tin without airconditioning...
