Norfolk Plaza
The small park here is close to Paddington Station and across the road from the Norfolk Plaza Hotel where I was stayong at the time. It is a well grassed area just nice for reading a book if the weather permits.

We had a good stay at this hotel using it 3 separate times (6 nights total) as we moved around England and Europe. We chose the hotel for its proximity to Paddington station as we used the Heathrow Express (only 12 minutes to Paddington) and were delighted that it was less than 5 minutes from the station to the hotel. The hotel is fairly basic and has small but clean rooms - like most London hotels. The breakfast room is okay and there is an elevator if you can't manage the stairs. We had a TV that clung to the wall and buffet breakfast was included in our room cost.
Unique Quality: The hotel is owned and operated by some French people. All staff at the Hotel are also French so it is an interesting place to be in London. It is only a 2 minute walk to the Paddington Tube station and there are heaps of ethnic restaurants in the area. The Plaza itself is okay and a nice place to sit and read a book after a long days walking around London. Edgeware Rd and its shops are close-by and Marble Arch can be walked to in about 15 minutes.

We are looking forward to our first visit to London. We need recommendation on a nice place to stay near public transportation. Is there any opinion on the Omega hotel? Grosvenor kensington? any other? Also, day trips out of London - we want to see the Hever castle, what is the best transportation to get there? Should we purchase a Brit rail pass? How about Oxford? we would like to see some of the countryside. How is the weather in June? thank you in advance.
Hi - I just stayed at the Norfolk Plaza Hotel in London which is very close to Paddington tube so great for sightseeing. Its 3 star - comfortable and not too expensive (Expedia.com should be able to get you a good deal). Its also nicely situated in a quiet square with a garden so no traffic noise to keep you awake!
Cheers
Lynda
I think you can get to Oxford fairly easily and quickly by rail. Try www.nationalrail.co.uk or www.thetrainline.com. I'm sure there are lots of coach trips available too......you'd see some countryside on the journey either way. Try googling for coach+day+trips+London...... most companies will have websites. As for the weather ...we hope for some sunshine and temperatures in the high teens/ low twenties, but make sure you bring some warm clothes and rainwear too. Visiting Britain means packing for all four seasons....we can get them all in one day!
Hi !
Oxford should be a good choice for day trip frm London, you can go by rtarin or coach frm Victoria (Coach) Station in London. En route, enjoy the English countryside view of Oxforshire, totally different from London!
You may take the open top bus tour to get familarise with the city then decide where/what you want to visit. Among the city highlighst are the Ashmolean Museum, redcliff Camera, Christchurch etc. Probably you can try the Oxford Story as well.
Enjoy!
