any accessible gyms near heathrow or tooting broadway?

by jswift

Hi all and seasons greetings

I will be in london for 3 weeks this coming january, I will probably be staying around heathrow or near tooting broadway. I enjoy regular weight training and was wondering if there are any gyms around that are easily assessible and allow use on a pay-upon-entry basis?

The gyms I know in London are all membership based but hotels do have that facility sometimes. Email hotels in the Heathrow area

Where exactly "around Heathrow"? Could be Hounslow, Slough, Southall, .. Anyway, if this works, look at http://www.totallysporty.com/sport_club_venue/results.php?sport=21&postcode=UB3%205AP If it doesn't, cut to main site, and select gym/weight-training (I think it is), and appropriate postcode e.g. UB3 5AP (= Heathrow). The first item that comes up isn't in quite the right area, but all the others should be.

Travel Tips for London

FREE HUGS

by DAO

I found this nice group of people in Speakers Corner. Bizarrely they never spoke. They just had the FREE HUGS signs. They seemed very nice. A weird guy wanted to hug a man holding the sign and the sign holder looked briefly nervous. Other than that they cast a small oasis of peace, harmony and good feeling in what is often actually an acrimonious place. I don’t know who they are, when they are there or if they will ever be back – but I hope they will.

You can make a sign that says FREE HUGS yourself and go there if you want!

London theater. The best in the world. Walking through Kew Gardens at 1 AM in the morning in light drizzle and
fog. Try that in Central Park in New York and I wouldn't give a plug nickel
for your life.

Go to the markets in London; Smithfield for meat, Billingsgate for fish, COVENT GARDEN, Borough & Spitalfields for fruits & vegetables.

COVENT GARDEN - Designed by Charles Fowler between 1828 & 1831. This is the home to a range of craft & antigue stalls, restaurants, fashion boutigues, etc...

See the pelicans at St James Park This is really a lovely park. There is a nice lake with ducks, geese and pelicans. It was a sunny day in September and unseasonably warm when I visited there and I saw many people in the park strolling and sitting on benches and reading books.

Americans can be too pushy, loud, and ostentatious.
This does not impress the Brits one bit.
My hat must have been a bit much since it embarassed the in -laws.
The picture is the Tower of London where the Crown Jewels are guarded.
