Saturday night in London

by lynmur

4 thirysomethings coming down this weekend, any recommendations on where to eat and drink? Like cockatils and wine, not bothered about clubs, quite like people watching and would love star spotting. Mid range prices be great, not too expensive please.
Thanks

How Fulham Broadway sounds to you?
Has a village feel to it and I just discovered, few weeks ago, great little reastorant, which serves Chinese/Malaysian/Thai & Singapoore food.
Mainly noodle & rice dishes.
The restaurant is next to the Tube station, and opposite Blue Elephant Royal Thai restaurant, where you can spot quite few celebreties...
The food is great very big portions and extremly cheap.
The dishess start from £1.80 to £3.80,

Go and visit THE BITISH MUSIAM, One day is just not enough. You'll see the many different cultures. Loads of greak methology info. The food prices are too high there though so take you own. Walking aroud at night and watching london come alive with so many people so different.

Bollywood at Selfridges

by Elodie_Caroline

This is one of 'Selfridges' many glorious window displays when we visited in May 2002 (5th). They were celebrating the great 'Bollywood' movie phenomenon, and what a way to celebrate it! I love Bollywood movies, 'Asoka', 'bandit Queen' and 'Salaam Bombay' being three my favourite Indian movies of all time, so thought it only apt to photograph the wonderful and picturesque windows.

London Tip

AYLVESBURY. I was very lucky to be able to stay in my penpal house while I was in London. She was staying at the Aylesbury at that time, a little town very near to Oxford. Aylvesbury is very peaceful and quiet place but it is pretty inconvenient to go to London as I have to take an one hour train to the center of London from Aylesbury train station. The weather there was pretty cold, even in the summer. It was raining the first two days while I was there but later on there has been some sunshine but still it was quite windy. This photo was taken on one of the Sundays I was there. Apparently, there was a celebration going on and people are performing a traditional folk dancing at the Town Square. I was very happy to be able to witness this unique performance.

Escalators

by joits

Something that I miss about England is their escalator ettiquette. In the states, people just stand anywhere, but in England, the proper custom is to stand on the right so that people who want to climb a bit faster can easily pass on the left side. Don't forget this because if you are travelling around London via the underground, this is something you will frequently encounter. Don't be that annoying tourist who stands on the left side and wonders why people are staring at them. London is a very fast paced city and has equally fast paced residents looking to get somewhere!

A Brit at 20 paces

by sjvessey

Or "how to recognise a Briton from afar".

To the trained eye, the British (both men and women) have a very distinctive 'look'. Men will typically be ungroomed and overweight (although not obese), with close-cropped hair laced with gel, set off by drab, scruffy clothes which they will regard as the height of fashion. They often wear gold chains and rings. Women tend to look similar, although they generally have more of a 'pear' shape to them. They may wear big hoopy fake gold earrings.
