Lille - London: bus and ferry!
by Taxama
Hi, everybody!
I d like to travel from Lille(France) to London by ferry but with minimum changes. I think that the best way to do so EUROLINES bus.
Maybe somebody know! In what way Eurolines Buses cross the Channel - by sea on ferry or by train in euro tunnel?
Thank you!

Eurolines go through the tunnel or the ferry.
Read this leaflet which indicates which Paris - London journeys go which way.

I cannot see anywhere on the Eurolines.com website that tells whether the buses from Lille have the same situation ie tunnel or ferry.
The only other means of making the journey using the ferry would be take a train from Lille to Calais (Ville), the ferry from Calais to Dover then a train or bus from Dover to London.

They defintely not carry passengers on buses on trains in the Chunnel! If there is a bus from London to Lille it must use the ferry.

Well the Eurolines London - Paris leaflet I mentioned says that that do go through the tunnel on some journeys. They certainly do when the weather is very bad and the ferries seriously delayed or unable to sail.

I am afraid you are not correct, IP. Perhaps you are confusing the Eurotunnel crossing with the Eurostar?
From the Eurolines UK > Brussels leaflet (I imagine the Paris leaflet says much the same thing):
>Taking the coach to Brussels is easy with Eurolines.
Departing from London we make our way to either Dover
for a ferry or Folkestone for Eurotunnel. The ferry crossing
takes about 90 minutes and the tunnel about 40 minutes.<

You stay on the coach if that departure uses the tunnel crossing.
There is only one departure to Lille at present, at 10am. I cannot tell if it uses the tunnel, although as the journey is long (arrival at 16.30) I suspect it does not.

They definitely _do_ carry buses with passengers on Channel Tunnel trains. They use the same single deck shuttles used for trucks. Cars are transported on double deck shuttles.

Of course. I think the confusion lies in Eurostar/Eurotunnel. Entirely different trains for entirely different purposes.

Get out at he tube stop by the Tower of London. My first glimpse after climbing out of the tube stop was just awesome, sending shivers up my back. After years fo reading about the palce to actually be there myself almost got me crying out loud! Everything. Just eveything. Try the chips, with vinegar and salt. Read all the tabloids, and have a morning coffee, too. Try a fresh cut sannie, and carrot soup. Tea, must have a cream tea at least once. OK, twice, but not more than that in the same day.

Here you see the famous Tower: prison where a lot of people were imprisonned and died. Today you can see here the crown juwels. All around you can watch the great, black crows going and flying around. Very impressionating!!!

Best time to visit: London is not a summer city. Most places don't have air conditioning and London heat is muggy and humid. Spring or fall are perfect for London, particularly since there always seems to be a buzz about new fashion, new plays, new exhibitions and the new soccer season. Christmas, like in any big city, is delight.
Cockney Rhyming Slang
by deeper_blue
Not so much a language as a code for everyday items, CRS uses an "ingenious" method of pairing two like for like words, the second rhyming with the actual meaning for example: Those apples are very steep. Apples and pears are both fruit, apples rhymes with stairs -> Those stairs are very steep! There are countless others with new ones occasionally being invented. Mainly used in London, some have penetrated into everyday conversation in England my favourite is Use your loaf. Loaf of bread rhymes with head, in other words switch your brain on.
