Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen

by virtualpierroro

We- 2 persons - will use the ferry between Portsmouth and Caen on April 29th.
Shall we reserve, buy our places right now or can we buy our tickets at the time we will get to the Ferry? Is it safe to wait at the last minute?
If we buy the tickets at the time we get to the ferry are they more expensive?
Is this ferry small? big? very big? Any idea of the number of places on this ferry?
Knowing that we will cross over during day time, in the afternoon, what type of seats do you recommand to buy?

According to the website there is no need to make advance bookings

http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/fleet/normandie-express

and with 850 seats on the Normandie Express and more than 2000 on the slower ferry, I'm sure they know what they're talking about

The ferries carry vehicles and are not small.

As you are travelling furing the daytime, a reclining seat should be perfectly ok. Absolutely no need to book a cabin imo.

If you don't want a cabin I'm sure you don't need to book in advance. But if it will put your mind at rest (I have to admit I would prefer to book in advance) then it is possible to do so on the ferry company websites.

Travel Tips for London

It's not all history and pomp.

As you walk around London, especially the City of London, take the time to look at some of the less well known buildings that offer some fantastically pleasing architecture. From the new to the old there is surely a building you will find that offers you a different perspective.

An exciting activity for me is to see a show in the west end, many of the theatres are situated in Shaftesbury Avenue (theatreland) but there others. Seeing the King and I in 1980 for my 13 birthday with Yule Bruyner. Lastest show we have seen was The Lion King (very good) showing at The Lycem.

I suggest you get a map from www.londontown.com
It's only 2.95pounds and they ship it for free!

They will send you a superb 2D/3D map of London including an Underground (Tube) map. The 3D map is awesome and it shows you all the great places to go. Very useful.

Liecester Sqaure Ticket Stand.

by Aragina

The Ticket Booth sells tickets for a selection of West End theatre shows on the day of performance only. Tickets, are sold at half price plus a service charge of £2.50 a ticket - cash, credit cards and debit cards are accepted BUT no cheques or travellers cheques.

Do you know it was pouring with rain when I took this and there were people still trying to get tickets :-)

Located in Leicester Square, the Ticket Booth is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 7.00pm and Sunday 12noon to 3.30pm

Tickets are sold strictly from the 'top-of-the-pile' - there is no choice of where you sit. Generally the seats are in the [orchestra] stalls and, as these are tickets that haven't been been sold by the Box Office, are likely to be either in the very front rows, on the side of the theatre or right at the back of the stalls area.

As a guide, ticket prices for musicals are around £17.50 to £21.25 and for plays around £12.50 to £20.00 (including a £2.50 service charge per ticket)

You should go to the theater:like Garrick - there are a lot of young stars playing (Hayden Christiansen, mat damon, summer phoenix, cassey affleck) in 'this is our live' was great. i could get the last chair for 20 bucks! our like madonna, or the new 'Queen' musical! just try it, even if you don´t understand everything it´s something special.
After the show, I could get an autograph of Matt Damon and a picture! It was great!
