Bank station in rushhour
by sabsi
I waited for the underground at the station "Bank" right in the city of London after most people had finished work for the day. I was the only tourist, everybody else was wearing suit and looking important. A very interesting experience ... and one of my favourite pictures of all time.
Oh, talking of the stop "Bank" - it's a tourist trap as well somehow. If you plan to use the "Waterloo and City Line" from "Monument" don't bother going underground but walk to "Bank" instead. I didn't know that this was a trick station and ended up walking around hot smelly underground tunnels for 10 minutes following the signs. I ended up at "Bank".
Oliver Cromwell

Just outside of Parliament is a statue of Cromwell. He overthrew the monarchy in the mid-1600's, was buried with ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Two years later, his body was exhumed, his corpse was hung, and his head was cut off at displayed outside Westminster Hall for 20 years. Was he good or bad? If someone calls you "Cromwellian" is that an insult or a compliment?
Ambassador Central

Like any other international capital, the foreign embassies in London have usually seized the best buildings in the best locations. For instance, the Canadian and South African embassies occupy enormous buildings just off Trafalgar Square.
Free Newspapers

Look out for the free newspapers that are given out at stations and elsewhere in central London during the rush hour - well you can't miss them, really.
Amongst the actual news and other content, they will have information about what is going on in London and also reviews of pubs, clubs, shows and restaurants.
In the morning there is Metro. In the evenings, there is the Evening Standard.
