More about So London Apartments

Turquoise Tour & Travel

by sikorka about LONDON APARTMENTS SERVICE.com

We did this mistake to book with them, so I want to share our experience with others travelers.

We booked the apartment with LONDON APARTMENTS SERVICE.com vel TURQUOISE TOURS & TRAVEL for a week in Covent Garden. Before booking I have asked Asel if the apartment was noisy and she replied that "Regarding the apartment being noisy, the area is very lively, therefore, there is always a risk of noise" I think that if you rent the apartment above a disco pub there is no a RISK, but it's guaranteed that the apartment will be very noisy. The bottom line is, they knew from the beginning that we're coming with a 8-month old baby and they did not feel that they should inform us about a pub below. What's more, where we went to talk to manger, Rebeca, she even did not know what is below our apartment and her behavior was really unpleasant. As she explained she did not want to be nice because it's not her style. Additionally, she said that anyway we can sleep because the music lasts only to 2AM, so after that we con sleep! Of course, she even did not think how our baby can stand it.
It's a pity that manager does not have any idea what costumer service means!

On our arrival day 200GBP was held on our credit card for incidentals, but on a day when we went to make a complain 200GBP was actually charged to our cc by AVANTI AGENCY - we've never heard of.

What happened, we thought that we booked with London Apartments Service.com, this is the name on their web page. Later when we made a booking the conformation was done by Turquoise Tour & Travel. But, the apartment belongs to Avanti Apartments, which we discovered when we returned home and we were told by Turquoise Tour & Travel to call them to ask for our deposit of 200 GBP to be returned to our cc. 2 weeks after our return home the money was back on our account!!!

Turquoise Tour & Travel don't even know what they are renting, the apartment belongs to another agency and they just add some commission and rent it.

If you look for honest agency do not book with Turquoise Tour & Travel vel London Apartments Service.com

This is there web page www.londonapartmentservice.co.uk/index.htm The neighborhood of the apartment, Wellington Street is very central located and it's not noisy by itself. Only because the disco pub was just underneath the apartment it should not be rented, or the agency should inform about it.

london accommodation

by helperonline

could somebody here tell me if it is possible to rent a flat for a family of 4 in the city.of london. i think it is better london because i could avoid spending lot of money on trasnportation. It could also be a bed and breakfast. i am looking for the cheapest way to spend 4 nights with my family in january. the only thing i ask is the convenience of the area in regards distances to the main attractions and a private bathroom for the 4.
very short of money. it is a crazy idea. and probably the last trip my husband and i could make. that is why it is important. if sb know sth about it i would really appreciated.it.

There are tons of flats to rent in London. If you just do a Google search and type in London Apartments, you'll come up with a huge list. It's a very smart idea to rent one if you're there with the family. One nice place I can recommend is One Harrington Gardens - great location and simple but fine apartments with kitchens and modern baths. They're on the web, too. Be prepared.. London is very, very expensive - food and transportation has to be chosen wisely not to break the bank.

tks you very much for your great help. i will direct my search to the pages you suggested. i know it is very expensive but there is no other city in the world as nice as london and it is worth making a huge sacrifice to be there again. tks again to both.

just because we are planning to stay 4 days i cannot live far. tks again
this is becoming very diff. the prices are really high and then i will have to add at least one meal a day.

I recommend the Cardiff Hotel. It's in the West End only a few blocks from Paddington Station. There are no elevators so pack lightly and I suggest asking for one of the upper floor rooms. Your room price will include a buffet breakfast. Otherwise- you could also check citymundo.com as they recently added London apartments to their listings.

The Travelodge and Travel Inn chains are fairly inexpensive for expensive London. Friends of mine liked the Hotel Cavendish.. great location and fairly cheap. They have a website.

How cheap are you looking for?? You can stay in a hostel for around £20 a night. I recently stayed in St Christophers Shepherd's Bush, they have female only dorms and it was clean and safe. They are a *chain* and have a few hostels in London. Check the link for more info:

Hostels are the cheapest. The Youth Hostel Association has a few in London in nice locations. One in Holland Park, another in Hyde Parks and one close to St. Pauls.

They are cheap and well run. I did meet one lady on VT who stayed at the St Pauls hostel for £10 a night. Of course if you want to avoid a international dormitory snoring competition, you may have to pay more.

This budget chain of hotels seems to have season offer on at the moment. £10 for a self contained room of your own.

Wow... £10 for a room that's clean and neat? Maybe I'll sign up for a weekend away and take my own advice. :-) Thanks for letting us know, Film.

i usually use 'larerooms.com' then google the hotel name to check out what it looks like.

If you don't want a hostel then budget hotels in dockland usually work out as the best bet.

Travel Tips for London

Benches in the Hyde Park

by LanaFromRiga

Wooden benches in the Hyde Par are so fascinating. Most interesting thing I mentioned is people’s (poets, writers?) names with their birth and death dates and citations. The citation of this bench is by Sheila Kaye: “Many friends. Many memories.” I liked it very much.

Tower of London - Bloody Tower

by kris-t

Built in the early 1220s, the Bloody Tower is a gatehouse which controlled the main river entrance to the castle until the Tower's defences were extended for Edward I. And by the 16th century was being used to house some of the Tower's most important prisoners The 12-year-old King Edward V and his younger brother Richard, sons of Edward IV, were perhaps the Tower's most famous and tragic prisoners.
Since at least the early 17th century, this building has been known as the Bloody Tower because it was thought to be where the 'Princes in the Tower' met their end

Separated by the Same Language

by gilabrand

As Bernard Shaw liked to say, “England and America are two countries separated by the same language.”

I still have memories of walking around London in the drizzling rain looking for some bed & breakfast establishment with a “crib” for my baby – and wherever I went, I got these blank stares. Little did I know, back then, that it was called a “cot.” In America, of course, a cot is a folding bed – the kind pulled out for guests.

Even after living with English roommates and working for a British boss, there are endless surprises. Like the time I met my boss for breakfast at a cafe, and as he ate, he kept mumbling “Oh my God. This is disgusting!” What he meant, of course, was that the food was delicious, but that was not at all obvious to me, as a speaker of American English.

Working for an English-language newspaper in a foreign country – a kind of magnet for English-speakers from every corner of the earth - I have seen serious mix-ups caused by the fact that certain expressions can mean just the opposite, depending on where the person comes from. Take the political term “table a motion.” For Brits, this means to consider a piece of legislation; in the U.S., it means the reverse – to toss it out.

Every day my list gets longer. Here are a few more:

ENGLISH/AMERICAN
chemist – pharmacy, drug store
ironmonger – hardware store
barmy, mad – crazy
dummy – pacifier
torch – flashlight
bangers – sausage
fag – cigarette
pinafore – apron/ jumper
naughts & crosses - tic tac toe
petrol – gas
bloke, chap – guy, dude
lemonade – Sprite or 7Up (lemon-flavored soda)
bobby – police officer
crisps – potato chips
bog roll – toilet paper
rubber – eraser
football – soccer
gum – glue
plaster – bandaid
flannel – washcloth
Hoover – vacuum cleaner
pram - baby carriage
wardrobe/closet
dinner jacket/tuxedo
jersey, pullover or jumper/sweater
cooker/range or stove
bonnet/hood (of car)
boot/trunk (of car)
sultanas/raisins

What to Pack

by roamer61

Standard Casual. Pack and dress for warm summers and cool, wet winters. Temps are often on a par with the Northeastern USA. The usual Bring camera and ample film. London and in fact all of Britain offers a wealth of photo opps.
