Qiute nice actually!

My wife and I stayed at the Somerset Bayswater in October 2005. I was able to book two separate reservations through Gotoday.com for $128 per night. Gotoday offers many packages with many different hotels. The reviews on this website helped me determine that the Somerset Bayswater was the best value, and we were not disappointed. We arrived on a Friday and spent the evening there, then spent the weekend in Gloucester. We returned Sunday evening for the 2nd part of our reservation. The hotel was kind enough to store our luggage so we only had to take an overnight bag with us to Gloucester. The Friday night room only had a shower, but our room upon our return for our other 4 nights had a full bath. Both rooms were spacious by European standards, with a kitchenette, wardrobe, dresser, two chairs and small table, desk and TV and boombox. The beds were comfortable too. Their free breakfast buffet was the same everyday, but enough variety to give you a good start. 5 minutes from Bayswater Tube station, which will connect you anywhere in the city within 30 minutes, and a 15 minute walk to Paddington Station where we caught the National Rail system to Gloucester. Plenty of restaurants within blocks with all sorts of ethnic flavor (Italian, Chinese, British Pub, French, Spanish Tapas, and Lebanese). I would definitely stay at this Hotel again.
Second stay as good as the first

We stayed in the Somerset Bayswater in March of 06. It was our second stay at this hotel (preiously Mar 05). Once again the staff were excellent and the accomidations great. I love the central location of this hotel. You are only minutes from the Bayswater stop and about the same distance from the Queensway stop. There is a mall just down the street (Whitely's) that has several good resturants (try the fajitas at Oscars), a Marks and Spencers and clothing shops. The room at the hotel was large and well kept. The only flaw in the hotel was the laundry room. During both our stays the washers and dryers did not work. Do not count on their operation while you are there, make other laundry arrangments. Another thing to keep in mind is the type of bed the hotel offers. Most the beds are futon beds and the mattresses are a little hard. If you dont mind a furm mattress they are fine (my back likes a softer touch). Over all a very nice stay. I will stay here again in my future visits.

Loved this hotel

We found this hotel as a last minute deal for only 75 pounds/night and found it a great value for money. It was by far the most spacious hotel we've stayed in London. It was clean, comfortable, just 15-20 minutes walk to/from Paddington Station and we could open our suitcases and walk around!!! There's a little kitchenette/fridge, etc. if you wanted to have some meals at home. The bathroom was spacious and modern. The staff was perfectly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was average, but about what I expected.
Great base for London Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Somerset. It was a great location and close to transport and shopping. It was also very close to Notting Hill Gate and Portobello Rd Markets.
We had a two bedroom apartment that included a kitchenette. Three of us were comfortably able to live in the apartment for 10 days - it was also good to have the kitchenette so we didn't have to eat out every night (very expensive!!)
It was very warm and we actually slept with the heater off and the window open on some nights (in the middle of winter).
The continental breakfasts were adequete, not magnificent but they allowed us to start the day off with a meal in our stomach. The only disapointment was that the pastries were terrible (but that could be an English thing) and we also had issues with them only replacing two towels when we had 3 people in the room and no one told us that the maid service did not work on public holidays - so we left wet towels on the floor in the morning, only to find that they were still there when we got home that night.
Otherwise it was an enjoyable and comfortable stay.
Brilliant hotel

Stayed for 3 nights, from the 22 Feb brilliant place to stop, should have been somerset roland Gardens but they sold them before we got there, so we asked if we could stay at bayswater instead and it was not a problem, staff were excellent, breakfast is a bit limited but we managed and it saves you looking for somewhere to eat in the morning, rooms were more than big enough for 3 of us but try to avoid 204 it was very cold in the bedroom but we had already unpacked so could not be bothered to ask for a different room, will go back agsin

Somerset Bayswater Hotel
by ejsteeler
Hello all,
My wife and I are going to London in May and we've discovered what seems to be a good value in the Somerset Bayswater Hotel on Prince's Square.
The only problem is that I can't find any information on the Web about this place. So, if anyone has stayed there, or heard whether it's good or bad, any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Elliott

Hi & welcome to VT!
I stayed around Prince's Square in Bayswater last May when I was in London. No personal experience on Sommerset Bayswater but the Bayswater area generaly is a nice /safe neighbourhood. It is close to the Hyde Park and amenities - shopping (Witleys), commuting (Queensway & Bayswater underground stations is within walking distance frm Prince Square) & eateries.

Thanks leffe3,
What I mean is that yes, I've been able to find all sorts of hotel info, rates and things like that.
What I haven't been able to find is people with actual experience in staying there -- no trip advisor, no VT, nothing -- and that is what's bothering me.
