Unique Quality: Close to London Bridge and the fast train to Gatwick
there are three st. christopher's hostels just down the street from each other on borough high street in southwark, which is south london. it could not be located in a better spot as it is close to the london bridge tube station and the south bank thames tourist sights.
i stayed here in april 2007 for a week. i was in a six person dorm much of the time and then got moved into a four person dorm the last two nights (however, i had that one all to myself!).
the rooms are clean and the bathrooms in the hall are fine. the only downside was there is no place to put your bathroom toiletries down in the shower/sink area. the staff are excellent, very helpful and enthusiastic. there were a lot of young folks there and school groups. belushi's pub was always hopping (although i preferred the neighborhood old historic coach road pubs nearby, like the king's head). i was mostly out and about all over the city, but i really enjoyed a cookout on the small roofdeck on my last night.
if you are a young person (or young at heart) and want to visit london and meet people this is the place to do it! about $20 us per night -- can't beat that!
Unique Quality: nightly activities
movie room
roofdeck/sauna
busy pub
meager but free breakfast served
great coffee shop
Directions: between london bridge/borough tube stations
I stayed here with a friend for a little over a week. In general, I was happy with it although the cleaning guy was really rude. St. Christopher's was a short walk from London Bridge Station and also near the London Dungeon. It was also near Southwark Cathedral - take a stroll around inside. The location is excellent and all the people I met here were really nice. Don't expect luxury, but it's a great deal in central London. The bathrooms were a little gross, but just make sure to bring flip flops for the shower and you'll be fine. (It was no worse than the bathrooms in my dorm in college) Be warned that it is above a pub that plays loud music at night, but it wasn't a problem for me. The pubs in London close early, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm generally a light sleeper, but I guess I was so tired from sightseeing each night that I slept with no problem. Make sure to have a drink in the pub on the ground floor since everyone who worked there was awesome!

Part of a network of hostels situated in some of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK, these are fantastic places to stay...
In London there are several locations including THREE in the Southbank area, as well as hostels in Camden, Greenwich and Shepherd's Bush...
Pictured is the original St Christopher's, which is part of a 'complete community' including a traditional pub (St Christopher's Inn), a Coffee shop (Orient Espresso) and the Village - no matter which location you choose the facilities of all are available to St Christopher's guests!
All have internet access and other facilities include big screen TV's and a real integrated backpackers village of complementing services.

With plenty of showers and toilets on each floor to ensure no long queues. This 'community' is 5 minutes walk from London Bridge, and only 2 minutes from the tube and is ideally situated for exploring the wonderful southbank (yes, I keep going on about it!), some of the best waterfront bars and the famous Ministry Of Sound night club just around the corner.
Unique Quality: The nearby (1 min) Village has its very own roof terrace HOT TUB and SAUNA - how decadent is that to be enjoying with a few beers and friends in the centre of London!?
