The Clarendon hotel is the first georgian hotel in south east London. I know that the service is excellent, the food is wonderful and the rooms are comfy and spacious, if a little a pricy.
Unique Quality: In the eighteenth century when the Clarendon Hotel was built, Greenwich was one of the most powerful places in the world. Now as public interest is drawn here for the new millennium, the hotel provides the visitor with an ideal base to visit the famous National Heritage sites, just a short distance away across the green of Blackheath. If you get the right room (at the front) you get a wonderful view across Blackheath and over to the walls of Greenwich park.
Directions: Short walk from Blackheath train station.
Full marks for anyone coming out this way. It would make a good base to visit London. Don't let the location put you off Blackheath is a really nice area and Greenwich is close by. The trains to and from London are frequent (except on a Sunday).
While the rooms are nothing to write home about its a great location out of town.
Unique Quality: Best thing about The Clarendon is the variety of restaurants and pubs around the square. The pic has to be the Prince of Wales which allow you to sit on the Heath in the summer. Staying here will allow to live London the way the locals do.
