Transport from London to Portsmouth

by virtualpierroro

I plan to travel from London to Portsmouth -to catch the ferry for France- by using National Express or Greyhound.
Shall I go to Victoria Bus Station or Victoria Coach Station, in London?

Re: Transport from London to Portsmouth

Victoris bus station is the same as Victoria coach station. In the UK, a coach is the word for a long-distance bus.

National Express buses (coaches) leave from Victoria Coach station: www.nationalexpress.com

Greyhound buses (coaches), which are very new to the UK and operate only a couple of routes, does not leave from Victoria Coach Station at all It leaves from Bulleid Way....you can find map and walking directions here:

http://www.greyhounduk.com/where-we-go/

You will need to buy tickets for either service prior to boarding.

Victoria BUS station is outside the railway station - that is the venue for local buses to parts of London.

Victoria COACH Station is located at: 164 Buckingham Palace Road, SW1W 9TP, about 300 metres from the railway/London Underground (tube) stations.

Greyhound service is more comfortable than National Express and if you can snap up a cheap fare by booking in advance, a lot better value.

Travel Tips for London

Liecester Square

by El_Cookie

Ok, I landed at Gatwick in March 2001 , rented a car, picked up a buddy at Oxford and drove to Cardiff, Wales. I had the best time hanging out and partying all over Cardiff and especailly at club Liquid. So I figured if it went well in Cardiff it would go awesome in London. WRONG! We headed to Birmingham to hang out with another friend and hit a few clubs the night before we hit London. This is where we started having problems. I wish I could remember the names of the clubs. Well to make it short we could not get into 2 clubs because one of my friends was black. The following day in London in Liecester Square the same thing happened. Can anyone relate?

So we ended up at a rave in Elephant Circle district This is only because we ran into some black folks in Liecester square and they told us where to go. That was the best move we could have done. I did London once and I think that is it for me. Cardiff...I'll go there anyday.

Cheap London - Cheap Cinema Tickets!

by M0B1US

People seem to be under this mistaken preconception that London is an expensive city to visit...

That is patently untrue!

Why, mere yards away from Leicester Square, London's Cinema Heartland is the Prince Charles Cinema - Admission ?2.50 (?1.50 if you're a member, £15 for life membership!).

OK, so the films you'll see here won't exactly be current releases, PCC gets them about a month later, and there are many art house and classics shown here as well.

Check out the website for what's going on!

http://www.princecharlescinema.com/

Really people, I know accommodation for ?10 a night with breakfast, London's best Museums and Galleries for free, where to get food and drinks for pennies, the cheapest bars, quality meals with a drink for less than a fiver, how to travel across London all day for only ?2, hiring cars for as little as ?5.50 a day - the list goes on...

London expensive?

Only if you're not looking hard enough... Once the home of late night Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings, one of the greatest phenomenons at the Prince Charles Cinema are the regular 'Sing-a-Long-a' shows it puts on - these are out and out theatre and I was lucky enough to see the Rocky Horror version a few years back! Here are the details of the Sound of Music one... ;-)

'THE HILLS ARE ALIVE...
The Prince Charles Cinema is alive with the Sound of Music. That's right children every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon join Maria, a proliferation of nuns, the very dashing Captain Von Trapp and his delightful children to sing to your hearts content. For those of you who haven't seen the film every Christmas since the dawn of time the song lyrics are projected onto the screen to give you a helping hand.

A compere hosts every performance to whip you into a choral frenzy and is on hand at the interval to judge the fancy dress competition. (That's right, if singing in public is not humiliating enough for you then clad yourself in Auntie Vera's chintz curtains and jump up on stage to do battle for a years free pass to the cinema).

--- Boo the Baroness --- Hiss the Nazis ---
--- Wave Edelweiss --- Cheer Julie ---'

Go one - you know you want to...! ;-)

RUN in the underground!! You must move fast, & keep to the right if you wish to stand on the escalator rather than walking up them. People are viscous down there!! On the streets, it's sometime too fast to mosey about...keep up a pace. Don't give $$ to people asking you...they could well do you all your $$ & your watch!!
