NEED BETTER BEDS

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 21, 2015

I booked the RE Hotel because it says it is in the Shoreditch area, looked nice, and explained how good their beds are. On their website it says “Our Queen-size beds are the same as those supplied to Britain’s Royal Family”. Well I must have been given a double bed fit for the servants then. It was bad. Like hurt your back and not able to sleep all night sort of bad. And the walls are thin. And they have automatic door closers so you hear all the other doors closing. The odd thing is that I was on the ‘quiet’ side of the building!

Have to say overall I was disappointed with the RE Hotel. There was no real dinning or drink options of note within a reasonable walk. In fact I had to take a bus to get to a restaurant in Shoreditch. The hotel looks nice, the room looks nice and the bathrooms are good. I just want a good sleep and restaurants nearby. Sadly this is a fail on both counts.

New Hotel in gentrifying East End

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 12, 2008

This is a fairly new hotel about a mile from Liverpool Street Station in a formerly run-down part of town which is fast becoming rather upscale and sought after. Straightforward rooms, straightforward breakfast, but good quality overall. Flawless service. Room was a bit narrow for wheelchair users, but bathroom was perfectly usable.

While the discount rates last, the hotel is an excellent alternative for the overpriced Holiday Inn Express in nearby Old Street. I would definitely stay here again -- get those good rates, while they last! (not very long, I suspect).

Unique Quality: I made my reservation for this hotel with Gtahotels.com and got a price that was almost too good to believe -- EUR 63 including the English breakfast buffet! I don't think offers like these will last very long, the hotel is excellently placed for the Olympic venues, Hackney is already now becoming a very hip part of town -- the new Islington so to speak. Across the street is an inexpensive grocery store, where you can buy a bottle of water for 50p rather paying double price at one of the convenience stores in Liverpool Street Station.

Directions: take bus nr. 48 or 26 from Liverpool Street Station
