Stayed here in Dec 2004. Thouroughly adequate. Breakfast was included (I paid 85 GBP a night for 3 nights), and was fine - usual cereals, some fruit, juices/milk/coffee/tea, some breakfast meat like sausage/ham, eggs (poached were fine), toast. Was not able to connect to 'free' wireless access in lobby, though - don't know why. Staff was fine/professional, mix of indo-asians and eastern europeans. No porter or doorman, though, which seemed odd - would have been helpful, especially a doorman. The room had that usual stale old hotel/room freshener smell, but was ok. Decent size bath with a shower. Limited english language tv channels (maybe 8-10), but not that important.
Make no mistake - you stay here for the location/price combination. When traveling alone, I don't care as much about amenites as I do location and value. This location is absolutely top-notch. You can catch a couple of different tube lines from the So Kensington tube (Piccadilly and Circle, I think), which is very handy. Easy stroll to Harrod's and other shops, lots of dining options (I did takeaway from M&S and Harrod's). You won't be blown away by the hotel staff and amenities, but who cares? They weren't rude and check-in/out was easy, and although it was a bit worn it was quite clean.
