Good place, but expensive

The room was spacious and the bath room was good too (good water pressure). The hotel staff was friendly and knowledgable. They also offered excellent English breakfast. Mind you though, it is an old building and has no airconditioner. However, if you can open windows and turn on the fan, it was not that hot at night. 120 pounds a night (incl. tax) is not cheap either.

Unique Quality: Very nice neighborhood and walking distance to attractions such as V&A Museum (across the street), Harrod's (3-4) blocks down, Hyde Park, Natural History and Science museums, South Kensington tube station.

Location/price combination very good

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on March 14 and 15th, 2006. Room for two on 5th floor facing rear of building with open view of London skyline from two large windows Room had safe for valuables and safety lock with dead bolt on doors. Not sure how incident described in February could have occurred. Would not have happened in room we stayed in. Appeared to be combination of business and tourist guests staying at hotel. Location is excellent. Hotel clean and adequate. Notice was posted in room that they were in process of renovating all rooms starting in March, 2006
Breakfast open in restaurant at 7 am thru 10 am. Nothing special but adequate. Overall, we would recommend this hotel to anyone who desires a good price and great location when visiting London.

The Rembrandt

Close to everything by foot. underground and sight seeing.
Good sized room, with necessary facilities such as hairdryer, iron, tea-making equipment, etc.

Unique Quality: Bedrooms in need of refurbishment. Bathrooms very small. room service menu very limited

Comfortable Convenience in Knightsbridge

We had a pleasant room at the back of the hotel overlooking a quiet mews. We spent more time in this room than we normally would have because of health problems, and we felt very comfortable and at home. It was a clean and nicely decorated room far from the lifts and hall noise.
The hotel's location is wonderful. It's just a few steps to the Victoria & Albert, to Harrod's, and to Albert Hall as well as many other interesting things to do.

Unique Quality: The room price includes a fairly extensive English breakfast buffet in a large dining room. The hotel also has several large lobbies and one lone, popular computer.

decent business hotel

Stayed here in Dec 2004. Thouroughly adequate. Breakfast was included (I paid 85 GBP a night for 3 nights), and was fine - usual cereals, some fruit, juices/milk/coffee/tea, some breakfast meat like sausage/ham, eggs (poached were fine), toast. Was not able to connect to 'free' wireless access in lobby, though - don't know why. Staff was fine/professional, mix of indo-asians and eastern europeans. No porter or doorman, though, which seemed odd - would have been helpful, especially a doorman. The room had that usual stale old hotel/room freshener smell, but was ok. Decent size bath with a shower. Limited english language tv channels (maybe 8-10), but not that important.

Unique Quality: Make no mistake - you stay here for the location/price combination. When traveling alone, I don't care as much about amenites as I do location and value. This location is absolutely top-notch. You can catch a couple of different tube lines from the So Kensington tube (Piccadilly and Circle, I think), which is very handy. Easy stroll to Harrod's and other shops, lots of dining options (I did takeaway from M&S and Harrod's). You won't be blown away by the hotel staff and amenities, but who cares? They weren't rude and check-in/out was easy, and although it was a bit worn it was quite clean.

More about The Rembrandt Hotel

Thumbs up for The Rembrandt Hotel!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I recently spent two weeks at the Rembrandt Hotel in Knightsbridge. I shared a spacious standard double room with a friend and we enjoyed being walking distance from Harrods, Hyde Park, and Piccadily--never mind being minutes from two tube stations (South Kensington and Knightsbridge). The staff was friendly and the breakfast included was great. I especially enjoyed having discounted fees at the adjoining fitness center which provided salon and spa services (swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room). My only complaint would be that the bathroom pipes were a bit noisy at times and the room decor could use some minor upgrading. Beyond this, it was a great place to stay and I would definitely stay there again.

I found this to be an excellent small hotel in a great location. The lounge is very inviting, the rooms were just what a weary tourist needs & it is located close to a great restaurant & other facilities. The staff is excellent. A suburb bargain & will probably always make it my London headquarters.

Rembrandt Relaxation

We returned March 2 from 6 nights at Rembrandt Hotel. Excellent Knightsbridge location, about 3 blocks from Harrod's and Harvey Nichols. 5 minute walk to South Kensington underground. Nicely decorated, some redone rooms. We started with a smallish twin but were allowed to transfer at no charge to double bed room, a bit larger. All very quiet and clean. Excellent staff members, friendly and knowledgable. Great concierges. Good breakfasts, excellent quality dinner buffets, also alacarte items and cozy bar with fireplace. Free newspapers daily. Adjacent to a health spa with discounts for Hotel guests. Can't rate as "excellent" as compared to very high-end properties ie Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park which is 4 blocks away, but a wonderful price value esp. if booked through BritishAirways. We would return gladly!

Choose another Hotel! Don't Bother with the Rembrandt

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed in the Rembrandt in Sept of 03. Weather was unseasonably warm and beautiful and my room had no A/C-although they provided a standing fan (can you believe it?). In addition to this my room was on the sunny side of the street which would heat the room! I think that some rooms have AC and others don't b/c my travel partner had A/C!
The breakfast was less than mediocre so I would suggest a local McDonalds instead! The proximity to shopping is the ONLY thing that that this hotel can offer! Try another!

Visit to Amsterdam & Spain

by mairot

I will be going for 3 days to Amsterdam with my boyfriend. Can anyone advise of great restaurannts and nightclubs, bars in the area.

Re: Visit to Amsterdam & Spain

Just go through the Amsterdam VT-restaurants tips; they are catagorized in whatever you look for.

Bars: Rembrandt plein and Leidseplein area. If you look for "brown" cafe's go to the Jordaan area.
