For the traveller looking to stay within steps of the West End Theatre district, near to the Courts or Covent Garden, and across the street from Tea at the Savoy, no location could be better! Accessible from the Embankment, Charing Cross and Covent Garden tube stations it offers quick connections to any point in the metropolitan area. Interior lower floor rooms are Spartan - yet clean and very quiet. Breakfast is served both Continental and English style, but get there before 9:00 AM, to avoid the crowds that will descend. The hotel is apparently a favorite on the group-tour circuit, so is fully booked nearly every night, even in the 'shoulder season' of late March.
The friendly staff at the Concierge desk are extremely attentive, unlike the breakfast room staff who seemed a bit 'overworked and underpaid', serving the morning hordes. A free morning paper at breakfast is a plus. I have stayed here on two occasions, and it is a great deal for a single room, about average for a double. It is clean, with a helpful staff and could not be in a more convenient spot, directly across the street from The Savoy, at the Waterloo Bridge.
I was most surprised by the pleasant service in the pub in the hotel and also the Mask Bar in the lobby. After having drinks the night I arrived I discovered that the bartender had cashed out before I paid. When I pointed it out to him he said he assumed I was staying at the hotel and I could pay him anytime before I checked out. He didn't even ask for my room number. Having never been to London before, and traveling alone, I found it such a welcome, especially in a large hotel.
