Mobile Phone Connection in London

by tharinduc

I will be in London for 1 week and would require to purchase a temporary SIM for my mobile phone.

What are the cheapest options available? Where can I get the connection (I will stay in Docklands near Excel)? Also, pls. let me know average rates for calls within UK and the average cost for the SIM. Thanks!

hey u alright, you can go to an o2 shop and they will give u a free sim for your phone or you can go online and order one at www.o2.co.uk and they will send u one for free aswell if you feel better getting it sorted before you go, calls are really cheap no more than 20p a minute and txts are only 10p a message which is also good most networks dont go cheaper than that. as for signal im on o2 and visit london regularly and never have any troubles with mine :-)

Travel Tips for London

Just a little tip when using the underground...

by chagi1

I had a nice man help me out when I was standing on the LEFT side of the excalator.. there are signs posted.. "stand on the right" so that people in a hurry can pass on the left!! Apparently some people can get quite rough if you are in their way on the LEFT side of the escalator... so just trust me and stick to the right side!!! :o)

You will have to travel a long way

London's history is fascinating to read & to see - but you won't see much on London Bridge. As the old nursery rhyme goes - London Bridge is falling down my fair lady - & indeed it did fall down many times. The original stone bridge was built in 1176 & took 30 years to complete with the death of 150 workers. After numerous upgrades to strengthen the bridge it was finally sold. If you want to see the original London Bridge its location since 1972 is in Lake Havasu City Arizona USA I love glass buildings they provide a great picture opportunity with their reflections. The picture is taken from London Bridge but the reflection is Cannon Street Station.

Learn how to speak Cockney so...

Learn how to speak Cockney so you can talk like Del and Ro'ney from Only Fools and 'orses.
Yes, the accent thing... Creeping into the camp at 6 AM after a sleepless night and being asked by the boy at the reception: 'Do you wanna suck?' I popped out my eyes in disbelief, but then worked out that he meant to ask me if I wanted a sack to put my things inside. French English just rules in early yellow mornings!

Don't mistake the English...

by kinky9kev

Don't mistake the English sense of reserve for rudeness. They will genuinely and gladly stop and help you and dispaly a sense of irony in their humour.
The weather can bring a dampener on peoples moods.
