London to Harwich
by hockeyjock
I am aware that there are Special Cruise Trains that leave from Liverpool Station to Harwich International Station. The trains are for various Cruise Ships departing from Harwich. Does anyone have information about purchasing tickets, re: prior to or day of departure from Liverpool Station and ticket cost - Thanks

Yep there are regular trains but not many cheap tickets available. If you pop into Liverpool Street the day before you'll have no problems getting a ticket, which will be 26.20 GBP and valid on any train. Alternatively you could try www.thetrainline.com to see if they have a cheaper deal - it'll depend on the day and time you are travelling.
Have a good trip!

The first web site is a general one about the Harwich Cruise Terminal and access from London.

The second one here is giving Rail information. Including costs. Read the small print.

I presume that the Cruise Trains do not stop as they take a little over one hour whereas the regular hourly train does stop and takes about 1 1/2 hours. That is assuming there is no engineering work on the railway line or other disruption.

I may be wrong but I don't think there are any unscheduled trains specifically for the cruise ships. There are a couple of trains a day which arrive for the Harwich - Hoek van Holland ferry which are integrated with its check-in and arrival times. There are some trains that are faster than others, especially during commuter times, but you are only looking at mayby 10-15 minutes faster and there are are also some that require changes and hence are slower.
Travel Tips for London
The Museum of Childhood in...
by WorldXplorer
The Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green is a delightful collection of dollshouses (my personal favourite!) teddy bears, dolls and other toys ranging from the 1700s to about the 80s. The second photo is of a room in one of the dollshouses. The mask in the photo below the two photos of Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood is a sculpture at the front entrance of the British Museum. At the moment, both of these attractions are free although Bethnal Green states a donation is most welcome to help maintain the museum.

Democracy and free speech
by phil_uk_net
The UK, being the democracy it is, allows individuals the right of free speech to express whatever they have to say.
It is quite a common sight around Westminster and Whitehall to see demonstrators demonstrating against something, depending on what's going on in the world at the time. These demonstrators are located directly opposite the Houses of Parliament and are opposed to the war in Iraq (April 2003).
Full of culture and colour
by Imbi
London is undoubtedly a multi-cultural society. You can experience many ethnical minorities, who have been living in London for almost half a century but they have not lost touch of their own culture. If you get the chance go to Southall. You will feel like that you are not in London but India. It is like two in one kind of trip, you can enjoy and get to know the Indian culture while you are in London.
Good quality warm clothes for winter !
by Durfun
Make sure your suitcases have rollers to allow easy haulage & carrying around.
The fewer pieces of luggage you have the better. Warm clothes, eg a nice winter jacket, and warm socks for winter.
If you plan to do a fair bit of sight-seeing on foot, you may want to bring good walking shoes. Your basic aftershave, deodorant, soap, etc. The usuals, (if using conventional 135mm cameras, best to bring along your own rolls as they are expensive in this country) If camping, make sure you have the proper gear & supplies, including that for cooking, sanitation, etc. Don't forget to come with your sense of adventure & willingness to adapt + absorb.
