Heathrow To Reading

by jimjim9009

Hi there. This October I will be heading from Melbourne to London for the first time in my life. From London I need to get to Reading, via train or bus. Is there anybody here who can tell me of the cheapest/quickest/easiest way to get from Heathrow to Reading?

Bus (coach).

Dead easy:

www.nationalexpress.com (make sure you use the 'coach' tab)

or

http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/index.cfm

From Heathrow Central Bus Terminal (well-signed from everywhere in the airport)to Reading railway station. Takes just under an hour.

Or by train. Look at www.nationalrail.co.uk for times details and fares.

Hi,

You need to book about NOW for cheap train journeys. Trains probably leave Paddington every 20 minute or so for Reading. Buy on the day and you will need to remortgage your house. Buy now and pay pennies.

http://www.thetrainline.com/default.asp?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Egoogle%2Ecom%2Fsearch%3Fhl%3Den%26ie%3DISO%2D8859%2D1%26q%3Dtrainline%26aq%3Df%26oq%3D%26aqi%3D&T2ID=7222_200972484849

(Long link for the Train Line)

You could take the Bus (National Express, Megabus) but they will take longer.

Reading is a major hub for out/in bound trains to London. Very easy to get there.

You obviously need to get to Paddington from Heathrow. You can do this via the Tube (London Underground) - but not this weekend. Its a 'direct' service.

National Express does leave from Heathrow and you could get a more direct route that way avoiding London.

Look here:

There is a link to National Express. You may have a few stops, but would probably be quicker than going into London just to come back out.

This will be easy I promise you.

Have a great time.

I can be much slower when required, believe me. :-)

There's also the dedicated RailAir bus which runs from Heathrow Bus Station and Terminal 5 into Reading Railway Station every 20 minutes with a journey time of about 40 minutes. This is the quickest, but at 14 Pounds not the cheapest. www.railair.com for timetables and online booking. BTW your ticket is valid for any bus on the day of issue and no need to reserve.

I agree that the 'Rail-Air' bus is probably the most convenient means if not the fastest.

Failing that, take the local 'Heathrow Connect' train (NOT the Express) to Hayes & Harlington and change there for local trains to Reading. Trains every half hour, seven days a week, one hour journey. These are local trains so no bother with advance purchase or reservations. One-way fare £15.10, so a bit more than the bus.

There is absolutely no need whatsoever to go all the way to London Paddington, if only for the facts that it is much more expensive and you will find yourself covering the same 15 miles of track twice, as Heathrow is between London adn Reading.

Travel Tips for London

You know what I'm going to...

by principesa

You know what I'm going to write here... Go see the normal stuff like Big Ben, Tower of London, 221 Baker St, Westminster Abbey, the royal castles. etc... Why? Because it's really fascinating to see, albeit touristy... Who cares?! Go and have fun!... London was the first place I ever went overseas. I think it's almost fitting that it will be the first stop on my RTW trip!

Big ben is one of those...

by jgemini65

Big ben is one of those monuments that you are really never prepared for on first site!
I love that feeling! Seeing something for the first time up close and personal and being overwhelmed by its magnitude!

Memorial walk

by LanaFromRiga

Hyde Par is very interesting place. People running here in the mornings, they watching the horse guard trainings and just walking around. One more thing what people can do in the Hyde Park, it is to thinking about the life. Diana Princess of Wales memorial walk helps to find state of mind.

Tube Station Escalators

by CADspark

As far as we are aware this is a custom totally unique to London.

When entering or exiting Tube stations via escalators please ensure that you are standing on the right hand side of the escalator.

The unwritten rule in London is that the left hand side is for users who are in a hurry and would rather walk the escalator.

Electricity

by keeweechic

The electricity supply voltage is 230V. Equipment rated at 220V may function, but it is advisable to check with the manufacturer before using it in the UK. The standard plug in the UK is a three flat pin model
