Self-catering apartment
by SallyM
Atrium is a self-catering apartment hotel, which is suitable for longer or short-term stays. I was there for just two nights. My apartment had a reasonably-sized sitting room with galley kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom.
The kitchen was equipped with a cooker, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster and kettle, but, rather to my surprise, no microwave. Standard kitchen utensils and sufficient crockery for 4 people were also provided. There was a TV in both the sitting room and bedroom. An iron and ironing board were also provided.
The hot water arrangements were a little strange. I was told on check in that the hot water came on at 6.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m., and that if extra hot water was needed, it was necessary to press a button by the boiler.
Unique Quality: Before my stay I read some reviews on line which mentioned an odd smell in the hallway and lift. Sure enough, when I arrived, I even found a notice by the lift mentioning this smell, and stating that it was under investigation. The smell certainly was noticeable in the lift, but it really wasn't that bad.
The cost worked out at less than £70 per night, which was not at all bad for the standard of accommodation and space provided, though I am not sure that I would call them 'luxury' apartments.

Travel Tips for Manchester
Granada Studios
by M.E.R.V
Manchester - home to Granada Studios where you find the set of one of Britain's top soap, Coronation Street. (Oh, I love Corries...) They used to do tours in but I think the studios are now closed to the public. However, we have been offered by the very nice Kate Ford aka Tracy Barlow if we wanted to visit anytime she's filming. Oh such luck!
Power Hall
by sandysmith
One of the coach hall is devoted to steam power - quite steamy and hot in this room too!
This hall had been a freight and engine shed.
Here you can see the largest working collection of steam mill engines in the world plus some huge steam locomotives

Didsbury
by Ben-UK
If you fancy visiting one of Manchester's leafy suburbs for a drink or something to eat then you might like Didsbury -- it's full of cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs and has become extremely popular in recent years -- especially on warm evenings when you can sit outside and watch the world go by.
One bus stop south of Didsbury is Fletcher Moss (see separate tip) -- it's a delightful park with outdoor botanical gardens and lots of nice walks through woods or along the bank of the River Mersey.
Take the 42 bus from Manchester Piccadilly -- it goes right through Didbury village -- about a 25 minute journey.
