I stay at the Willow Bank regularly because it’s near to my head office but if it wasn’t I probably wouldn’t. There’s nothing very wrong with it (apart from the scratchy blankets they insist on covering your bed with) it’s reasonable well run, the staff are OK, the place is neither friendly or unfriendly but it’s a safe place to stay.
It's got an expensive bar but this is a lively student area so your spoilt for choice round here for pubs and bars. Residents can can a late drink from the staff when elsewhere is shut.
The website say’s “The Willow Bank Hotel offers 120 bedrooms, many having recently been refurbished to an executive standard” (but not yours) The rooms I’ve had tend to be small and hot in the summer, on the plus side it’s got a secure car park and the breakfast is very good.
Willow Bank handy for Owens Park (and the Uni) numerous buses run into town, which might take you 15 minutes or up to an hour at busy times, taxi is not much quicker and buses are a lot cheaper.
It’s an OK choice if you are leaving from Manchester International Airport (it's in a good spot between the airport and the city centre) and is no doubt considerably that the airport hotels and there's more going on.
Apart from breakfast, I haven't eaten in the hotel restaurant because I’m a curry addict so I walk down Wilmslow Road to Rusholme and the "curry mile" which has dozens of places to eat (Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi etc). I've eaten thousands of curries in Asia but I've had some of my best ones here.
If you like curry and you are even remotely hungry I defy you to walk through Rusholme without popping in for a quick one.
