What is the differance between a VIP gondella and a orginary gondella?

by hawkhead

I guess you must mean gondola? There's loads of information on Google if you put in "vip gonaola". It all depends on what type of gondola.......

by hawkhead

whoops, that should be "if you enter "vip gondola".....

by leics

The VIP gondela was made for President Chirac when the wheel was in Paris.

It has a walnut interior, leather seats, a cocktail cabinet and a phone.

by leics

I am guessing the OP meant the Manchester wheel, simply because I suspect there are no other gondolas in Manchester. I may be wrong...... :-)

by hawkhead

Wot, Leics, no handsome gondoliers wending their way along the canals!!

by leics

I do hope someone can tell me I'm wrong..............

Travel Tips for Manchester

Manchester's waterfront, the Quays

by jayhawk2000

Like Buda and Pest (or rather more like Minneapolis and St Paul), Manchester has a twin sister...well, an ugly stepsister: Salford. Here you will find the old docks of the Manchester Ship Canal. Despite being 30 miles from the ocean, about 100 years ago they brough the sea to Manchester! The dockyards had a railyard, cranes and warehouses. Today the docks have been rechristened the Quays, a place with stylish flats, shops, pubs, cinemas, hotels and restaurants. Amid all this is a museum district with two of the country's most stunning futurist buildings, the Lowry and the Imperial War Museum of the North. There are plans for a Holocaust Museum and a World Digital Centre as well. Strolling the quayside on a hot summer's day (we do have them occasionally), watching rowboats ply the water, stopping at Chiquitos for a Mexican buffet, having a pint of local ale, admiring the view from the Imperial War's 'air shard' tower, nabbing a bargain at the Designer Outlet...every time friends visit we show them around here so I have many great memories of the place!

Who knows why?

by BlueBeth

Ok, I find this quite odd... I'm sure it's just because I'm getting old (er) but any given weekend, if you get off the train at Victoria (there are 3 mainline train stations in Manchester)
and walk towards the Triangle/Selfridges/Next/Printworks area, the place is full of teenage kids dressed in black.
There are skaters and goths alike, and however individual they are trying to be I'm afraid that they may as well be wearing a uniform. Bless their hearts, they're trying...

My blue heaven

by BlueBeth

I couldn't add a page on Manchester and miss out Manchester City! The City of Manchester Stadium was built for the Commonwealth games held here and we moved in after they moved out. Critics say that the fans are much quieter since the move, I'd say they've not been there long enough to call it home yet. (Plus there's not much to shout about at the moment!)

Loved this one......

by leics

Although it's in Albert Square, one of the main areas, you might well miss its grandeur..the Town Hall does rather overshadow everything nearby!

I wonder....was it, perhaps, inspired by the massive bows of the Titanic or similar ships?

I really liked it.........almost felt as if, at any moment, it might cast off its moorings and set sail into the midst of the German Market!

If it's not here, you probably don't need it!

by BlueBeth about Affleck's Palace

This isn't a shop, more a huge warehouse split over different floors with different things wherever you look... I absolutely love this place, there's tiny little shops selling everything from vintage clothing to hair extensions... You can get your hair done, have a tattoo or just grab a sandwich and a coffee. If I went to Affleck's everytime I went to Manchester, I'd be pretty much broke... There's loads of little jewellery places that I just can't resist and you can find the most obscure shoes here :o)
