you need to check www.nationalrail.co.uk

go to the journeyplanner and look from Manchester Airport into Leeds
you get cheaper prices "off-peak" and the further away your journey is

hope you find something cheap enough

It is probable that taking a coach (long-distance bus) direct from Manchester Airport to Leeds will be cheaper than taking the train. It may also be slower, however.

www.nationalexpress.com will give you times and fares. Journey length is around 2+ , or 3+ hours if your departure time includes a change of coach. One-way fare is 10.50GBP.

The coach will stop at Leeds bus & coach station on Dyer Street.

There are direct trains and trains with one change from Manchester Airport to Leeds. Journey time is around 1.5 hours, one-way fare (unless bought in advance) 21GBP.

The hotel website gives clear directions on foot (less than 10 minutes) from Leeds railway station:

http://www.bewleyshotels.com/leeds_hotel_details.asp#leeds-hotel-by-rail

If you put the hotel postcode LS11 9AT into www.streetmap.co.uk you will get an idea of where it is in relation to the railway and bus/coach stations.

Travel Tips for Manchester

I was born in Stockport...

by lucybostock

I was born in Stockport (unfortunately). Manchester has picked up in the last 5 years but is still nothing to London. great for trendy bars now, esp. down Canal St. I like Band on the wall. Good museums in Castlefield - you can go down a reconstructed sewer if you feel the need. Very much ex- cotton industry vibe going down.

The Dry Bar is also very good for a night out. I miss KEY103 radio station and my cats.

Cows in Manchester

by sandysmith

Until recently 150 colourful cows could be seen all over Manchester! It was a public art display but sadly it has now finished. Some 60 odd of them were sold at auction (5th Oct 2004) - the ones which were not vandalised :-S - so you might still come across them in private or public companies. This one stood outside Oxford Road train station ( I was passing through for a conference on their last week on display). Sadly this was has now gone but I hope they made lots of cash for the children's charity in Manchester.

Check out the website for more pics of these cows - there really was some amazing designs, made me wish I'd seen more of them.

Manchester United Football Club

by ratherton

Old Trafford is the biggest club stadium in England (67,000) and is home to Manchester United, the richest club in the world. They have a total wealth in excess of £1bn.

There is far to much to talk about in just one VT page but if you are a football plan then Old Trafford is worth a visit even if there isn't a match that day. It is best to check the website for a full list of things to see and do at Old Trafford.

As well as Manchester United playing here, England also play some of their home matches and will continue to do so until the new Wembley Stadium opens in London in 2006.

Greyhound Racing!

by hayward68

We went to Belle Vue one night to watch the dog races and it was really quite fun. Missed out on betting on first race we saw, should have bet, the dog I wanted won. So bet on the rest of the races and didn't win a thing :-( I think Dave was the only one to win that night.
One memorable thing happened that night at the races. We heard cheering coming from near us in the building, I figured somebody had won on the race. Then Julian tapped my arm and pointed off to my left. I looked over and saw that one guy had stripped off all his clothes and was standing there buck naked! Luckily his back was to me or I think I would have blushed beet red, lol! And also, luckily, he was a well shaped guy, lol! Not exactly what I was expecting from a night at the track, lol!! Sorry gals, no pic of this!

Deansgate

by Ben-UK

The main shops on Deansgate are Kendal Milne & Co (Kendals) - this old-established store is now part of the House of Fraser chain -- and Waterstones the bookshop.

There are some nice restaurants, bars and cafes along Deansgate.

Deansgate runs south from the bottom end of Market Street towards the Castlefield area.
