If you are ready join me 07404519074

Re: Lets Organise an event in Manchester

Why not sort out a basic date and post it on the Meetings page?

http://meetings.virtualtourist.com/calendarEntry-0-1-World----calendarEntry.html

You'll see there's a Manchester meet already planned for November (and one in London in mid-September), so perhaps yours could be a late-summer/early autumn meeting?

I need a companion/a person, to manage a meeting or event

Re: Lets Organise an event in Manchester

You only need to fix a date and a time, and suggest what to do.....maybe meet at a certain cafe at x time, then go for a wander/whatever round Manchester, then perhaps have an early meal somewhere? You can book a table for the meal once you know how many are coming, if you think the place needs you to book in advance.VT-ers are easy enough to organise, honestly, and you don't need to make huge arrangements for a meeting. :-)

Travel Tips for Manchester

Not a rainy as you might think!

by Mikeo11

Manchester is the UK's second city, It also has the largest concentrations of nightlife, restaurants, theatres, museums, art galleries, music venues, pubs and bars including even London but the city is a lot smaller than the capital so it is very easy to explore.
It is also the home of some superb archetecture both traditional and contemporary.
Manchester has a reputation for wet weather although in actual fact, the climate is very similar to San Fransisco, USA
Manchester is also home to the best known football (soccer) team in the world, Manchester United, and a trip to their 'Old Trafford' stadium (and club museum) about 2 miles outside the city centre is a must (and also a visit to the Lowry Gallery and Imperial war museum which are both near the stadium)
Manchester is easily reached via the large international airport (in the world busiest 25 airports) which is about 9 miles (15 mins drive or train trip) south of the city and has regular flights to and from all continents (except Antarctica) and daily flights to / from Several US cities, and most major European cities. World class restaurants
Banging nightlife
Superb buildings
Great Museums and galleries
Many excellent pubs and bars
Best theatre outside London
Friendly people

Water and Sewage

by sandysmith

There is a fascinating section on water, its treatment, victorian wash houses and a reproduction victorian sewage system - complete with authentic smells!! This was one of the most interesting aspects of old Manchester life in the museum for me.

Packing List

by Brit_girl

Backpacks are a great idea, if you are going up market or here on a family holiday suitcases are fine. Water proof clothing, warm clothing (even in summer as a precaution). Anything goes. Whatever you usually use. Camera, film and batteries. Although you can buy them here. Umbrella or jacket with a hood.

The Lowry

by M.E.R.V

The Lowry designed by my favourite architect Frank O'Gehry is a museum of contemporary art exhibits. You don't even need to know that, but by just seeing its fish-scale like structure walls, you know the man behind it! This place reminds me of the Guggenheim in Bilbao, with it being sited by Manchester's waterways on Salford Quays and the bridge across the canal which takes u to the entrance of the building. Again, this is another fine example of Manchester's fine modern architecture. This spectacular building for the 21st century is unlike anything you have seen before and is a five stars by me! The following website gives you a panaromic view of the Lowry. http://www.manchester.com/java/guidebook/museums/lowry/lowrypanoramic.html

The best independent record shop in town

by monkeyfeesh about Piccadilly Records

It's the best and most comprehensive independent record shop in Manchester. There are other excellent shops that are more specialized in particular genres, but this is the one that carries the best range of stuff from house to hiphop to indie to electronica to folk. The staff know and love their stuff. You can listen to vinyl before you buy it. It's a good place to pick up fanzines and flyers for club nights. It's also a good place to go to look for ideas for things to go buy from Vinyl Exchange across the road (See elsewhere) if you're tight like me. Anything from around £1.99 for a single up to £18 for a CD or vinyl album. If you're into your music, you could spend a fortune here.
