Ultimate Frisbee in Manchester?

by PatrickJohnson

Hi, I signed on to VT just to ask this question!

I am moving to Manchester in February of 2008 from Boston, MA, in the USA. One thing I don't want to leave behind is Ultimate Frisbee! I know this sport isn't as popular yet in the UK as it is in the USA, but I am hoping someone can tell me if there is a team or club in South Manchester I might be able to play with. Actually, anywhere around Manchester is ok, it is just that I will be living in Didsbury for at least the first 3 months.

Thanks!

http://www.sport.manchester.ac.uk/au/clubs/ultimatefrisbee/ at the university. Might be only for students/college people though.

http://duffa.org/ is based in Didsbury itself, so it seems your best bet.

Welcome to VT, btw.

Wow, thanks for the links, especially the http://duffa.org/ one. Didsbury Ultimate Frisbee For Amateurs (DUFFA) looks like exactly what I need... a relaxed ultimate frisbee club dedicated to having a good time, practically next door to the apartment the company is renting. Who knew it would be so easy?

thanks!

Pat

Travel Tips for Manchester

Shopping

by sandysmith

Manchester is a shopaholics heaven - umpteen choices of shops and shopping areas to choose from. Apart from designer shops mentioned in the Triangle, the Arndale centre provides all you need from the major chain stores and is still being updated and added to after the IRA bomb blast in 1996 Plus how about this for a neat way to cross the road!

Rusholme, is a 'must go' area,...

by caprice4u2

Rusholme, is a 'must go' area, if you want to be presented with a cornucopia of Indian/Pakistani food. The food is inexpensive and there are meal deals in a few of the restaurantes, where you can get starter and main meal for around £5...There are also some excellent food shops selling fab Asian food/Asian video's/ jewellry/ electrical items. Driving through Rusholme is always very busy, during the celebrations marking Eid, be aware the streets are cordened of and it is EXTREMELY busy....also a fairly large police presence.

Tipping, its not obligatory, but 10% is the usual..

Take a train out of the city

by R_Bond

Trains head in all directions from the city for a day trip from Manchester, some of my favorite places include.
Glossop (Derbyshire) - An old market town on the edge of the Peak district (30 mins)
Buxton (Derbyshire) - A spa town in the Peak district and great for walkers (1 Hour)
Bolton (Lancashire) - Another old industrial centre with nice shopping and compact centre (20 Mins)
Blackpool (Lancashire) - A traditional sea side resort, illuminations in the autumn (1 Hour)
Windermere (Cumbria) - In the lake district for those with a whole day (2-3 hours)

Manchester lands a Concorde

by jayhawk2000

Alpha Charlie, the flagship supersonic aircraft of British Airways, retired to Manchester Airport in 2003. This Concorde was BA's first of seven and joins the aircraft collection at the Manchester Airport aviation viewing park. A new hangar has been built to protect the craft during the winter whilst in warmer months it sits on a special runway next to one of the main runways.

Visitors will are allowed to climb aboard for a glimpse of the Joan Collins lifestyle. Chin-chin!

Contact Manchester Airport for news on when Concorde will be on view (though I often get a sneak peek when flying in or out of the airport). Aviation enthusiasts should also visit the city's National Science & Industry Museum with its huge air and space gallery.

Manchester Airport was the world's first civic airport and has a superb viewing platform which is popular with photographers and plane spotters.

The other Concordes have retired to Heathrow, Bristol, Edinburgh, New York City and Seattle with one lucky bird going to Barbados.

Low prices branded goods

by M.E.R.V about Designer Outlet

The designer outlet in Salford is one of the UK's most exciting and tempting place to shop! With over 80 retail outlets selling famous brands goods at up to 70% off the market price. One of the shops include the recent opened UK's biggest Nike Factory. In my point of view, this is certainly a great place to shop without having to worry about burning a big hole in ur pockets!
