I can only answer on Emmerdale. You cannot visit the set - it is in the grounds of Harewood House near Leeds or Harrogate but there is a village called Esholt near Bradford which used to be used until they built the dedicated village set a few years ago. If you wander around Harroagte at lunchtime - especially Marks and Spencers - you should see a few Emmerdale stars on their lunch breaks. I saw Emily drawing money from a cash machine there a few weeks ago. I have also seen Jimmy and Laurel in M & S.
I think Eastenders is filmed at Elstree but not open to the public.

I'm afraid the set tours for Coronation Street were closed in some years ago.

Travel Tips for Manchester

Whats going on?

by sandysmith

The square of the Town Hall has been pedestrianised and often there is some event or other taking place here. When we arrived here there were barriers and a stage set up and lots of young girls around - they were obviously expecting some hero of theirs!
Well later we discovered it was radio concert and Peter Andre was the main event later on in the day. It just so happened that as we walked past here again after a meal he was just about to do his 15 minute set...so we stood and watched with the teeny boppers ;-0

Check out The Museum Of Science & Industry. The Museum is in Castlefield, a few minutes from the City Centre (follow the brown tourist signs). Nearest railway station - Deansgate.
Nearest Metrolink station - G-MEX. For more information, please visit: http://www.msim.org.uk/.

Most time You get droped here unceremoniously.

by Toyin

Yes, as I said earlier, the British train system are not usually the most reliable. On this day we were not to stop here, but they told us, "if you are going to Manchester, you have to drop in Stoke on Trent, because this train is running behind schedule" So, here we are.

It took us another 50minutes to catch the next connecting train.

The reconstructed North Gate...

by Nobbe

The reconstructed North Gate at Castlefield has been built on the excavated foundations of the original stone fort, using evidence from other Manchester excavations as a guide. It shows how the gate would have appeared around 200 AD This position is flanked by the two original defensive ditches which were built during the 3rd century AD. Above the arch in the gate is a guardroom, furnished with reproduction furniture in the style of the period. An inscription on the gate commemorates a detachment of troops from the provinces of Rhaetia and Noricum (modern Austria) and their centurion, Lucius Senecianus Martius.

Arndale Centre

by alfredop about Arndale Centre

Located in the heart of the city, Manchester's Arndale Centre in many ways dominates the central shopping area of the City. Begun in 1972, by its completion in 1979 it was the largest covered town shopping centre in Europe, covering some 30 acres in the old city centre, with 750,000 shoppers visiting it each week. With over 200 shops, major department stores, restaurants an fast food outlets it has become a busy and active shopping arcade.
