    Got a great rate!

    by

My friend and I spent a night at the Premier Inn in Manchester City Centre (May 2012). I managed to secure a great premier flexible rate at 68.00 gbp per room per night (usually the premier flexible rate around 109 gbp per room per night at this hotel!) considering it's located in the city centre and our stay fell on the weekend of Manchester City's crucial football match at home.

We could have got the room cheaper with a premier saver rate but we decided to pay more for the room incase of cancellation.

Unique Quality: The hotel is situated on Portland Street (at the junction of Oxford Street). It was only five minutes away from the Palace Theatre where we saw the new 'Phantom of the Opera' production on the Saturday evening and only a 10-15 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station.

We had a lovely room with comfortable beds and even a choice of pillows! We had an ensuite bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities (wished we were supplied with more tea and coffee supplies though).

We couldn't fault the hotel and I probably had one of the best good night's ever in a hotel! I look forward to staying in another Premier Inn in the not too distant future.

There is also an onsite bar and restaurant. Breakfast isn't included - we didn't purchase breakfast because of the extortionate prices and bought our own provisions instead!

Directions: Portland Street, at the junction of Oxford Street and not far from The Palace Theatre and Oxford Road Railway Station.

Trafford centre

Located near to the Manchester united football ground and with excellent motorway links the Trafford centre is the perfectly located if your in the northwest and fancy a day of shopping.

The mall is based on a Roman theme with marble columns and glass domes, which creates and alight and airy shopping environment. The mall is open from 10.am to 10pm monday thru friday.
There are 280 shops and 38 restaurants to dine in with more planned on the way. There is Selfridges, Debahams and other UK high street retailers. When it comes to dining then the orient is the place to go. Conveniently located on the centre of the mall is a food court and in the design of a deck of a ship with a large screen TV showing all that¡¦s going on at the mall. The court has all the usual fats food eateries. Surrounding the food court there are a number of restaurants such as Exchange bar and grill (Great burgers) or Cathay Dim Sum and Nando¡¦s for Portuguese cuisine.
When it comes to entertainment then you can always relax with a bucket of popcorn and a movie or why not visit the Namco centre for either 10 pin bowling or shooting American pool. If you fancy shooting someone then why not visit the Laser quest.

Why not spend a full day and night and stay over, there are a number of hotels in walking distance from the mall,

1.Tulip Inn- adjacent the main entrance close to the bus station for the Trafford centre will take 8 minutes to walk too. http://tulipinnmanchester.goldentulip.com/
2.Premier travel Inn (Manchester Trafford Centre North) 0.4 miles from the main entrance to the trafford centre
3.Premier Travel Inn (Manchester Trafford Centre South) 0.1 My recomendation as its just around the cornewre from the oreint entrance where all the resturants are located and is actually situated in the main grounds where othe two options requires the crossing of a major road. The hotel is also close one of my favorite restuarnt chains ¡§Frankie and bennies¡¨.

Good suggestion by earlier poster.

Many Chinese restaurants have buffets, and invariably the afternoon ones are better value than the evening ones.

Lots of such restaurants to choose from, on the main drag.

Enjoy :)

Hotel In Manchester City Centre

Can anyone tell me which good hotel to stay near Piccadilly Station and easy access to Old Trafford Stadium/Shopping centres. I will be arriving Manchester Airport and will be taking train to Piccadilly Station.

Thank you in advance!

The Btitannia on Portland Street is about 5 minutes (max) walk from Piccadilly station and is very reasonably priced for a city centre hotel. Being central it's good for the shops and the tram to Old Trafford runs from close by. The only thing to be aware of is that the cheaper rooms are internal and so don't have windows. www.britanniahotels.com

Re: Hotel In Manchester City Centre

ooops typo - Britannia Hotel!

Re: Hotel In Manchester City Centre

I have stayed at the Picadilly Gardens which is close to the Britannia. Their cheaper rooms look out over roof tops at the back but it was a nice hotel.

Re: Hotel In Manchester City Centre

I, too, would recommend Piccadilly Gardens Hotel. Very reasonably priced for a city centre hotel, great location with easy access to the metro tram system for getting out to Old Trafford.

The Portland Thistle is close to the station and Mal Maison is just opposite. There's also a holiday Inn on Prtland street just a little further down than the thistle. Depending on your budget there is the Macdonald hotel just next door to the station. You will be spoilt for choice in this area.

Re: Hotel In Manchester City Centre

I'd recommend either the Britannia or Piccadilly Gardens - I've stayed at both-they are usually reasonably priced -(I suggest booking through Venere.com or Booking.com) and about a 5 minutes easy walk from Piccadilly train station.

I stayed at the Britannia last week and paid £44 for a single room - The Britannia is quite historic and has some lovely features such as the staircase, and the bar.

The Arndale shopping centre is within easy walking distance from these hotels.

The Manchester Visitor Information Centre, is on the same street as The Britannia
Piccadilly Plaza Portland Street Manchester M1 4BT +44 (0)871 222 8223 for bus/tram and train time tables and information on how to reach the different shopping centres.
The Trafford Centre and Old Trafford are out of the main city centre.

You may actually choose from a number of hotels in the city centre. I found a very helpful website regarding this. Feel free to check it out.
