Mega Disappointment!!! : (

I booked this hotel for myself and my 17 year old daughter in order to attend her uni interview. I booked directly with the hotel and they quoted me a reasonable rate. I booked this because it had a carpark and they stated that my daughter could have early access to our room as she needed to change for her interview, as we had been driving for over 6 hours.
That was not the case, on arrival we were told that she could change in the fitness rooms, the floors were damp and not really practical for getting ready for that interview.
The staff at the desk did not seem interested at all. We were told that they did not have a room ready, it was hardly that early, it was 1pm!
They said they would take the bags to the room for when we got back. That was not done either!
The rooms shabby. It took ages to be served with a hot drink at breakfast. When we did catch the waitress eye I felt like a nuisance.
They tried to overcharge at checkout, no apology. A totally negative experience.
This is the pits!!!

Where do I start....the room was dirty & stinking of damp, the bathroom was filthy and all cracked and the shower did not work the first night ( I am sure the Care Manager knew this before I even told him! ). All TV Channels had a bad picture or no picture at all ( what satellite TV??? ). The dining room was freezing as was the food and the food I ordered was not received however by then I just wanted out of the place. The Pool was the only nice bit but the changing rooms were also smelly ( they must have used the same cloth they used to clean the bathroom! ), The lifts were very dodgy and seemed like they were about to break down and there were no stairs you could use.( only fire stairs ).This is the worst Hotel I have stayed in and if I had been paying ( and not my work ) I would have left the first night!!Dont be fooled by the website..3 star????.....they make it sound so good!!!!
Give it a miss!!
DON'T bother with this hotel!!!

Despite the average to high price, and the promise of luxury, this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in!
Things that were good about our stay:
-Great views over Manchester (though partially obscured by the filthy windows)
-Average to superior foyer/reception
-Helpful staff
-The swimming pool (and I mean JUST the pool and the six foot area around it)
-The breakfast was average
-The central location
Things that were bad about our stay:
-Filthy room, especially the bathroom (hairs everywhere, scum round toilet, dirty cracks around the sink, general lack of hygiene)
-Very outdated decor in a state of disrepair
-The Leisure club - I have NEVER seen so much mildew in my life - completely covering some of the walls in the changing rooms and around the showers. The water in the jacuzzi was cloudy, so needless to say, we did not venture in there!
-The scariest lifts I have EVER experienced!
I think you get the idea - we were really really disappointed (and also a lot dirtier!) after the experience!
Never ever stay in this terrible hotel

My husband and I stayed there for two nights. We were not aware that the check-in time was 2pm and were an hour earlier. Yet, we were being told by an impolite and blunt staff at the counter that we could not check in at the moment and had to come back later.
Regarding the lifts, they were extremely terrible and old! As the reception was situated at 2/F of the hotel, we had to use the lifts to go up and down all the time. Whenever we were inside the life, it seemed that it would shut down and trapped us inside. The other visitors whom we met shared the same feeling too. In the evening of out first night, all the lifts (actually there was only 3 in total serving about 11 floors) ran out of order. You really can't believe it that there was no notices informing us of these and I saw people with luggages making their way down the stairs.
Inside our room, the bathroom was really dirty. There was mould on the bath tube and washing basin.
The breakfast, for us, was nothing better. No one served us. We had to ask the staff for toasts, tea and coffee. It seemed that they did not realise our existence. More worse, I saw a staff re-using some utensils on a table which had been previously occupied by someone. It was truly bad.
One thing we did not expect in our hoilday was that there was a real fire drill taken place. When we phoned the operator as a result of a persistently loud and annoying sound, we were told "to evacuate the building". What an extremely bad experience for us!
We did not have any expectations for this hotel long before we arrived at it as we have read many reviews written by other visitors. It was indeed worsen than what we could imagine!
Rooms OK, service crap

I stayed in this hotel in February '05, and was pleasantly surprised with the rooms after reading some of the reviews on here. However, there were some issues, which would mean that I will never stay in this hotel again.
1. I nearly vomited after getting out of the lift - it was almost like a new fairgroud attraction at Alton Towers.
2. It took 35 minutes to get 2 bottles of lager to my room. I could have gone to the nearest offy in less time, and got the drinks even cheaper.
3. I work as a hotel duty manager, and had any of my breakfast staff been as apathetic as the ones I met here, I would overhaul the entire department. A bomb could have gone off and they wouldn't have realised. Quality of breakfast food also leaves a lot to be desired. To sum up - like biting into a heart attack.
4. I had a slight dispute with the receptionist on departure, when he couldn't recognise clearly the signature on the back of my credit card. When I asked why he didn't uses chip and pin technology he informed me that the hotel didn't have it yet - despite chip and pin being introduced over a month before, due to government legislation.
In short, the rooms are OK, but the attitudes of the staff appalling. I will never stay here again.
