If you like a little extra and a little different

Stuart really made our first impression at the reception upon arrival. He couldn't be more of a service person and well trained, but friendly and very, very nice.
The reception area is Velvet, but the rooms are great.

Service and quality in a special way - ladies and boys (and men) will feel welcome.

Unique Quality: The view from our room was the sky - we had roof windows, the room was fantastic and had the biggest bath tub I have ever seen. The complimentaries of the room was the little extra, great minibar, iron, small little extras that one appriciates (condoms...if needed)
The boys and girls working had only one thing in their mind ....service!

This is a MUST STAY TOP NOTCH HOTEL

by TripAdvisor Member mis_widget

Out of all the hotels we have stayed in, this is one we would definitely go back to.
We went for a long weekend, not sure if we were going to stay 1 or 2 nights. We found Velvets website, and chose our room from the beautiful photos with the reception (over the phone). Initially we booked one night, saying to reception that we may stay for another, and could we change rooms on our 2nd night (the rooms looked so nice, I wanted the double bath and he wanted the double shower!) on the Saturday (23/05/09) we had a room with a double bath. It was HUGE! The bed was so comfortable, the lighting was really good for a girl to do her make up in, the mirror in the bathroom never fogged over with steam. There was a huge full length mirror in the room, it had everything you needed. Another lovely touch - the little bag of treats in the bathroom. Cuticle cream, foot cream, lip balm etc
On the 2nd night we did change rooms, however they didn’t have the room we wanted and we were offered one of the 2 floor pent house suites. It was bigger than my house! Huge L shaped sofa, dining table, big wall mounted TV, electric sky lights and blinds. In the bathroom there were double sinks, a beautiful roll top bath and separate shower cubicle. We also had a toilet upstairs in the bedroom. It really could not have been better!

The rooms were heavenly, impeccably clean, On arrival the service was excellent, we had our bags taken to our room, we were showed around our room, told that if we needed anything just to ask. It was a really warm and personal service from all the staff though out our stay. We re booked to stay again as we left.

Velvet: lovely unique hotel

by TripAdvisor Member roubierre

This is a lovely hotel with a great feel about it.

The service was excellent and staff seemed genuinely happy to help.

Although the room (we had a balcony room) wasn't the most spacious, it was lovely as it was well designed & individually decorated, with an air of luxury.

The location is central not only for canal street (obviously), but the city centre and Manchester Piccadilly Train Station, so it's easy to walk to all the main attractions.

If you opt for the bed and breakfast rate, you get continental + your choice from a selection of cooked items (which include vegetarian options which can be adapted for vegan). The bed and breakfast rate is only a small additional cost compared to the standard (no breakfast) rate, and so was definitely worth doing it.

The hotel is above the Velvet restaurant and bar, but this didn't seem to cause any problems at night with noise etc. The food in the restaurant was good, and probably the best meal I had during my stay in Manchester.

There is free wifi at the hotel.

The rate for the nights I booked was £109 (inc breakfast) and I booked it direct with the hotel.

Birthday Treat that had to end x

All I can say about Velvet "Excellent" beginning, middle and end. So much so that we booked another night as we initially chose to stay on the Saturday but after spending a fun day in Manchester drinking Prosecco and eating cured meats in the Selfridges Moet bar we couldn’t face going home.

When we arrived the staff, were so friendly and helpful we had room 404 which was one of the penthouse suites and it was amazing the Burts bees complimentary cosmetics certainly kept me more than happy.

The staff on reception are by far the most polite I have come across in the UK and I would recommend this lovely hotel in a second to anyone xxx

It was hard to come home and that has to be the sign of a fab hotel x

A hotel which ticks all the right boxes.

My Partner was working in Manchester for the w/e, so I decided to join him to indulge in retail therapy during the day, and keep him company in the evenings. Velvet turned out to be the perfect choice of Hotel for our stay. It took minutes to walk to the hotel from Piccadilly station (even with a lge suitcase). Just take the new footbridge across the rd when leaving the station. Few 100yrds on look to yr left and you will see the VELVET sign across the top of the Hotel building.
While we are on the subject of location the hotel is on Canal Street which is very lively in the evenings. Lots of tables and chairs outside and great for people-watching. Lovely, friendly, relaxed atmosphere in this area. However air-conditioning and double glazing meant we had a very quiet room even though we were looking out over Canal Street.
We had room 25 on 2nd floor which was beautifully furnished. A roll top bath and separate shower are in the spacious bathroom. The pictures of rooms on the website are not misleading, it really is as good as it looks. Like other reviewers I was very impressed by all the complimentary Burts Bees toiletries!
Also adding to the luxurious feel of our stay were thoughtful little extras such as fresh lemon & lime slices in the mini-bar, a bucket of ice cubes, a biscuit barrel of shortbread and very good chocolates left on the bed in the evening.
As a slightly frumpy 42 year old I did wonder if I might feel a little out of place in such a stylish environment, but all the staff were very friendly, and could not have made us feel more at home.
Breakfast in the restaurant did not disappoint. Gorgeous room, delicious food ( you must try french toast with maple syrup & bacon), and again really friendly staff.
I have been lucky enough to stay in quite a few hotels in Manchester over the last 10 yrs including The Palace, Midland and Hilton. They were all good, but Velvet is definitely my new favourite place to stay.

Luxurious four star accommodation and service

by TripAdvisor Member Erkling

We stayed at the Velvet Hotel in April 2009 shortly after it opened. We were very impressed with the standard of the hotel and service. The receptionist and all other staff showed a real interest in the success of the hotel and offered to show us around the other rooms, all of which are decorated in unique ways. Throughout our stay, the staff couldn’t do enough to make the visit enjoyable.
Our room was absolutely delightful – plush and luxurious. Every comfort had been considered. It was spacious and well lit, with the decor comprising of a variety of textures from a brick wall, to velvet curtains, to wooden beams and steel girders. The ceiling was high and the room very large, but with a really comfortable feel to it. It has to be said that the bed was very comfortable too – something not all hotels bother with.
We have visited Canal Street before and many of the venues along the street are quite downmarket – the price you generally have to pay for gay venues in the north. It was lovely to find a hotel and bar that did not lower their standards. We have preferred to stay in hotels a little further away from ‘the scene’ before, such as the Malmaison, but found this hotel to be a much better alternative. It ranks well amongst other four star hotels and we will definitely be returning soon.

I might become a regular

by TripAdvisor Member LeedsRobbie

We stayed at Velvet on a Friday night in the pouring rain and were in a bad mood by time we arrived, soaked. That soon changed.

The greeting by the staff was really friendly and we were soon shown to an amazing room. By the time we had finally taken it all in a guy was knocking on the door with a supply of milk, ice and lemon - now if that wasn't an excuse to crack open the mini bar I don't know what is. We were supprised at how cheep the mini bar was compared to the usual stupid prices in hotels (we had to have it restocked a couple of times before we even made it out!)

The location was great, the room had a bit of noise from the bar but nothing you wouldn't expect from a city centre hotel and it certainly wasn't a problem when we got back.

A fantastic stay and I may well disown my friends in Manchester so that I have an excuse to stay again.

This Has To Be The Best Hotel In The UK :O)

This is my second trip to Manchester in a matter of months. I had visited the bar on my last trip and thought the staff was very frendly i came in with my boyfriend and was suprised to feel so welcomed being in the heart of the gay district and being the straight couple. i came across the hotewl looking here on trip advisor saw that it was number one and had to try it. I emailed the hotel one day prior to my arrival and got a qucik response back i was landing so early in the morning i wanted to drop my bags off so i wasnt running around town with everything. The GM was great asued me i would have no problem dropping everything off, much to my delight i was booked into the room as soon as i walked in. wow really the service here is just so amazing from the resturant to the bar and the hotel they are all so nice.I was upgraded to a fab. suit the room is sooo trendy and spacious, and the bathroom is huge with a big bathtub and seperate shower. Thank you sooooooo much for making this the best hotel stay ever!!!!!!!
I will be back at the end of my trip I love this hotel!
Cheers Michele Lord

Plush luxury and great service with some really nice extras

by TripAdvisor Member vhayhurst

The friendly yet professional welcome from the staff when we arrived at the hotel was a great start to our stay. I'd booked a room for myself and another for my sister and her boyfriend and it was a nice touch that they'd given us rooms next to each other when we hadn't specifically requested it.

The rooms were absolutely gorgeous - very plush with bags of character and very relaxing with everything you could need. The service was second to none and we enjoyed the little extras such as the slippers, luxury bath soaps and beauty products. Oh and the Kinder egg we found on our pillows when we got back in from our night out was a quirky touch! I think the beds are just about the most comfortable I have EVER slept in - an amazing night's sleep. Plus, in the morning we got the benefit of a full Velvet breakfast in the restaurant which is perfect for curing a hangover before hitting the shops!

Overall it's a hotel that you can feel really looked after , pampered and comfortable in.

Fabulous,Luxury Hotel - 1st class service & very friendly atmosphere

by TripAdvisor Member DaviesTelford

From the moment we arrived hotel staff were very warm welcoming and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and it was a real pleasure to see that everyone was buzzing about this hotel and clearly enjoy working there and why wouldn't they. The Restuarant food was amazing and staff equally friendly and 1st class service. The Hotel is amazing - I absolutely fell in love with it. It oozes style, luxury and 1st class. I had the most amazing nights sleep in the king size bed ive ever had usually I find it hard to sleep away from home. Home could of not been further from my mind - it was hard to leave the hotel to go home. Ive never stayed in such a beautiful hotel and been made to feel very special the whole Velvet Experience was fantastic - I cant wait to visit again !!! Huge Thank you to everyone at Velvet - Look forward to seeing you soon Love Mannie & Paul Davies (Telford 04/06/2009)

Smooth as Velvet!

by TripAdvisor Member KatieMc123

Just spent the weekend at Velvet Hotel and all I can say is 'Wow' - this hotel ticks all the right boxes: great location, great rooms, great staff, great bar, the list goes on! They even offer valet parking and your own personal rubber ducky in your gorgeous bathroom, to match your gorgeous bedroom!

Velvet leaves the other top Manchester hotel's in the shade - we went to the Lowry for dinner and it doesn't offer anything like the same 'Wow' factor as Velvet!

Will definitely be back! Well done Velvet!!
